CEO at Charles B. Wang Community Health Center

For the healthcare folks: Is there any justification for physician non-competes, esp in primary care? They trouble me on many levels, and I would love to see the practice end. We shouldn’t be stifling the professional development of primary care clinicians.

I agree wholeheartedly. Non-competes are becoming less relevant in other industries and in my opinion should never have been in place for providers at all. If you don't want your physicians to move to another practice in your area, treat them well and make sure they are supported and happy.

+1000 I think the only justification is that it is highly beneficial for employers. In most states, major hospital systems are the biggest employers, so they use that political power to create this advantage. It is crazy

We don’t have non-competes or procuring restrictions for Rocket Locums’ workers. We believe workers should be able to work anywhere they desire. Such restrictive covenants in healthcare has led to cost exorbitant practices, such as having to fly in a general surgeon from Montana to Texas, because a willing and available local surgeon is under a noncompete with a particular staffing agency. We have abolished these restrictions.

Non compete in a non proprietary setting is a reflection of the quality of the entity’s product. BAD

It’s great that a CEO of a healthcare organization that employs physicians is saying this! Thank you! 👏
