An exciting day at Square One Politics — we've added two incredibly impressive women running to flip competitive House seats to our growing list of 2024 candidates! With the addition of Janelle and Rebecca, more than 75% of Square One's candidates are women, and over 60% of those women are women of color. Did you know that women currently make up just 25% of the U.S. Senate and 29% of the U.S. House? Learn more about our team at Square One, our candidates, and our work to elect more women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ candidates to Congress here: https://lnkd.in/gM8RsedT

Over 75% of Square One’s candidates are women, and over 60% of those women are women of color. My endlessly impressive sister Marissa Rae is jumpstarting her search for a full-time role in brand strategy after spending the past two years successfully building up her own independent branding consultancy. If you know of any open brand strategy roles, or if you or someone you know is in the space and would be willing to chat with her, please comment below or shoot me a DM!
I was one of many laid off in the early months of the COVID-19 outbreak. I took advantage of this “break” and utilized the past 22 months to grow my business, Marissa Rae, Branding Services; focusing on assisting small businesses in finding their voice, brand position and strategies for growing their audience. I have consulted, built websites, hosted workshops, created and distributed yearly planners and written 5 e-books during this time. I was invited down to my alma mater, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, to speak to undergrad students, thanks to Shachar Meron. I provided e-books to the students of my former high school, Kenwood Academy, thanks to Karen Calloway. I’ve worked hard on my business and perfecting my skills and now I’m ready to apply my skills to the corporate world again! Send me prayers and leads (lol) as I begin the application process. I’m looking forward to re-entering the job world as a Branding Strategist.

“I have long believed that inequality is the greatest threat to justice—and, the corollary, that white supremacy is the greatest threat to democracy. But what has become clear during recent weeks—and all the more apparent yesterday—is that the converse is also true: Democracy is the greatest threat to white supremacy.”
Yesterday, we as a nation watched as a mob stormed our revered temple of representative democracy—and on a day when another 3,865 Americans fell victim to the raging coronavirus pandemic. The world was shaken by the sight of Confederate battle flags, gallows with nooses on the National Mall, rioters reenacting the murder of George Floyd. Let’s be clear; if these had been peaceful protestors for racial justice rather than violent combatants for white pride, officers would have used any force necessary to keep the building secure. How do we know this? Because we've seen America's legacy of racism take hold for hundreds of years. I cannot see yesterday’s insurrection as anything other than another chapter in a long exhausting history. And yet, from this same history, I also draw hope. Read our president Darren Walker’s statement on how democracy is the greatest threat to white supremacy.
Democracy is a threat to white supremacy--and that is the cause of America's crisis
