The green transition is happening. How much fossil fuel do we need and for how long? What’s needed to accelerate the shift to a greener future? On Thursday, the focus was on the green transition. We heard from Alasdair Ross, countries editor at The Economist who gave the keynote speech. He also led a conversation with local champions of the shift to net-zero, Polestar’s Hans Pehrson and St1 Sverige AB’s Marlene Burwick, and our CEO, Patrik Andersson. Here are some of the messages from the stage: 👉 The change towards a greener future is happening, it is not a question of if, but when and how. 👉 Oil has been powering industries and fueling transportation for 150 years, so it is inevitable that change takes time. 👉 Two major hurdles that need to be overcome to ensure a full electric revolution are intermittency and transportability of renewable energy. 👉 Urgent action is needed to tackle the climate crisis. 👉 Innovation is an important part of the solution and for that we need more scientists, engineers, private investment and public investment. 👉 Sweden’s innovativeness is a great asset for its long-term competitiveness. 👉 Fuel cells, batteries, hydrogen and sustainable biofuels all hold promise. 👉 Companies, politicians and private individuals need to do what they can to accelerate the change. 👉 Business Region Göteborg and public actors in the region are helping industry’s green transition, by among other things, supporting projects like Gothenburg’s gigafactory and Mission Zero House, a collaboration involving leading actors in manufacturing and materials industries and academia. The event was held at Stena Line’s office in Gothenburg and hosted in cooperation with the British-Swedish Chamber of Commerce, In Press, Stockholm Business Region, Invest in Skåne and Business Region Göteborg AB.
