Yerba Buena High School earned the 2024 Civic Learning Award of Distinction, an honor that recognizes measurable school wide achievements in civics. The award program, now in its eleventh year, is co-sponsored by the California Department of Education State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond and California Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero. Congratulations to all Yerba Buena staff that made this award possible!

For the commitment of our staff to the civic engagement of our students, ESUHSD earned the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) “Outstanding Civic Education School District Award” at the 2024 Power of Democracy convening! Clay Hale, social science teacher at Yerba Buena High School, also earned the “Civic Education Outstanding Educator Award" at the event. Congratulations to the team! ESUHSD earned the "Bold Steps for Children Award - Celebrating School Wellness Centers" at the 2024 Santa Clara County Children's Summit! Mt. Pleasant High School students were visited by Samsung Semiconductor Inc. earlier this year, made possible in part through a partnership with the Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) and the Eastside Education Initiative. Samsung Semiconductor Inc. (SSI) is the semiconductor division of Samsung Electronics, one of the world's largest technology companies. The company plays a crucial role in the global semiconductor industry, supplying components to a wide range of electronic devices, including smartphones, tablets, computers, televisions, and other consumer electronics. At the event, students had the opportunity to hear from a range of employees at SSI to understand the career possibilities and network with professionals from different departments, including engineering, marketing, and HR, at the Mentorship Fair. The event had two parts: 1) a career panel developed specifically for all 9th-grade students and a 2) a mentorship fair open to 9th to 12th-grade students. Ria Tyagi, a student at Mt. Pleasant High School learned from the experience sharing, “I learned that every experience and every career pathway is so different. We can see some people started off and knew where they wanted to go vs. some had some different pathways to where they are today. And I think that was very powerful for our audience to hear. In celebration of Black History Month, ESUHSD hosted the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Art and Writing Contest. Students across the districts were asked to reflect and respond to an excerpt from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speech “The Other America.” Abigail Soriano, ESUHSD’s English Subject Area Coordinator led the organizing of the districtwide event. Pleasant High School's CTE Multimedia students had an opportunity to learn from one of Hollywood's top production managers and aerial cinematographers, Patrick Whalen, in a special virtual conversation hosted by the California Film Commission and K-Pop! a film by Aegyo Master Production.
