It's an industry dominated by women, yet there is still an imbalance of power when it comes to fashion's C-suite roles. During Virginie Viard's tenure at Chanel, Chanel's fashion business grew more than twofold. Dior sales have more than quadrupled since Grazia Chiuri took over in 2016. And three of the five designers in our latest womenswear size inclusivity report were women. So why aren't there more women at the top? CALLING ALL FASHION DESIGNERS AND FASHION DESIGN STUDENTS! We're running a survey at Vogue Business looking into the opportunities and barriers for #fashiondesigners, as a follow on from last year's Debunking the Dream survey which looked at how we measure success in the fashion industry. We are hoping to understand the pain points in education, talent incubation platforms, #fashion prizes, working in-house vs running your own brand, navigating the changing wholesale landscape, and what it means to progress in your career as a #designer. We will analyse the pros and cons of various forms of support for design talent, while also asking deeper questions about what the industry values and incentivises. We are taking an intersectional approach to this research and hoping to hear from individuals at various levels of the industry, from various backgrounds. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete, and will be entirely anonymous. We’re keen to reach beyond our personal networks and get a broad scope of the industry for this, so please share the survey widely with your clients and contacts. It's that time of year again — this morning, we published our AW24 size inclusivity report. The results are disheartening, with big brands falling down after the green shoots of last season, but there were still certain designers putting in the work. Shoutout to Lucy Maguire, Maliha Shoaib and Madeleine Schulz, who scoured through every look (no mean feat!), and the design stars Helena Sønderskov and Niall Wilson (with help from Giles Butcher) who built the infographics. It's an essential read for anyone in the industry!
