Held under the patronage of His Excellency the Prime Minister of Iraq, Eng. Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani, the forum was a significant step towards creating a more inclusive society in Iraq. The event brought together diverse voices from government, private sector, civil society, academia, and local communities. It provided a platform for discussing the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and exploring ways to enhance their vocational rehabilitation and economic empowerment. https://lnkd.in/dS7K_EQK

UNDP Somalia values fostering a culture of peer-to-peer learning for effective knowledge sharing. Today, UNDP Somalia Economic Recovery and Institutional Development (ERID) Portfolio organized a session focusing on the development of our Local Economic Development strategy. The goal was to collectively learn, complement each other's efforts, and identify opportunities for a more cohesive program. Extreme weather and natural disasters displaced three times as many people as wars did in 2019. More than 95 percent of these natural disasters were the result of weather-related hazards such as storms and floods. Temperatures in the Arab States region are increasing twice as fast as the global average due to climate change. قام برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي في #سوريا بإعادة تأهيل 2,320 مترًا من قنوات الري في الرقة، تغطي مساحة 9,157 مترًا مربعًا، كما قام بإعادة إحياء 63,000 هكتار من الأراضي الزراعية بدعم من حكومة اليابان. أدى هذا التدخل إلى استعادة إمكانية الوصول إلى المياه وإعادة تنشيط دورة الإنتاج لنحو 21 ألف عائلة في ريف الرقة إبراهيم هو واحد من 500 مزارع في منطقة الجبالي شهدوا تحولًا ملحوظًا في ممارساتهم الزراعية وسبل عيشهم. وقد مكنتهم عودة مياه الري من تحسين إنتاجية المحاصيل وإعالة أسرهم. وقول إبراهيم: "لدينا أمل جديد وإحساس جديد لتحقيق هدف محدد يعد هذا المشروع، جزء من استراتيجية برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي لتعزيز سبل العيش، بمثابة شهادة تعكس صمود مزارعي الرقة تعرفوا كيف استفاد إبراهيم من هذا المشروع UNDP Syria rehabilitated 2,320 metres of irrigation canals, covering an area of 9,157 square metres and revitalizing 63,000 hectares of agricultural land with the support Government of Japan, . This intervention has restored water access and reactivated the production cycle for about 21,000 families in the Raqqa countryside. Ibrahim is one of 500 farmers in Al-Jabali area who have witnessed a remarkable transformation in their agricultural practices and livelihoods. The return of irrigation water has enabled them to improve crop yields and sustain their families. "We have new hope and a renewed sense of purpose," Ibrahim states.
