NFL player and Naval Lt Joe Cardona came by the Firestorm shop yesterday. Joe is a San Diego native who has one of the most interesting stories in professional sports. He has played over 140 games over a 9 year career with the New England Patriots while maintaining a role as an active reservist. Joe went to the United States Naval Academy and was drafted in the 5th round by the Pats in 2015. During that first year he was a Command Duty Officer at the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Rhode Island while being an active NFL player. 2 Super Bowl rings later he still actively drills to fulfill his reservist responsibilities. Joe doesn’t need to remain in the Navy and he does because he deeply cares about the mission and the country. In today’s world this is very rare and I hope the Navy continues to realize that they have a special human being who is a great ambassador for the department.
