Some high-level a/b testing numbers to show the value of a consistent testing program over the last 12 months: Revenue impact: $133,868 = [total revenue gains over the last 12 months attributable to a winning test / total a/b tests ran] This is sort of a RPV (Revenue Per Visitor) but for a testing program. Not every visitor generates revenue, but RPV gives you a metric to measure the overall value of a visitor. Not every test generated positive revenue, but this gives us an overall value of each test. Wins: 62% = [number of winning tests / total tests] 33% = [wins w/ revenue impact / total wins] Loses: 18% = [losing tests / total tests] 20% = [losses w/ revenue impact / total losses] All tests with attributed revenue impact (+ or -) had statistical significance. And, just in case you're doing the math: 20% of tests were inconclusive.

Partnerships, community, and events are the best performing go to market motions today for many reasons, but there's one thing no one talks about: They have black swan leverage. BLACK SWAN noun an unpredictable or unforeseen event, typically one with extreme consequences. Now think about it from a GTM lens: What would an extreme positive consequence look like? How about one partner that exposes you to a new database of 40k likely buyers? How about the one client that shares their experience in a content bite that gets re-shared across a new community of buyers? How about you become the talk of a conference, the newswire for your industry picks it up, and now everyone knows your new position? What's more likely to create a whole new pocket of warm leads, get you in doors that weren't open before, or make everyone else look antiquated in one moment? Someone endlessly calling people? An automated AI email sequence? The right relationship putting the right message in the right place? This is different than a shotgun approach hoping something happens. This is thinking about Black Swans the way Nassim Taleb wrote an investment philosophy around it: Make strategic bets that give you systematic exposure to black swan events. Early in my career, networking had black swan leverage. Then, I realized content had black swan leverage. Nowadays, it's obvious that strategically using networking, content, partnerships, and events to build community is the systematization of black swan leverage. I also love dusting off these networking concepts I shot in 2019 and contextualizing them to modern day GTM. Just goes to show- First principles never go out of style. Just like word of mouth will never lose it's throne as the most effective form of marketing.

In a world where we see 10,000 ads in a day, leading with value in your marketing will help you stand out. It trains your audience to actually read your emails and receive some form of dopamine from new information. Providing value before an offer will add more longevity in your customer base. There’s definitely a time and place for leading with offers, but I do think the landscape is changing. Thoughts?
