We are pleased to share that the CFA Institute Research and Policy Center has published this insightful research study on gender and promotion rates in Australian financial services, authored by Cassandra Crowe, CFA GAICD and Dr Laura Ryan PhD. This significant research highlights factors that have led to the under-representation of women in high ranks of the financial services industry, with findings on the gap in promotions, with women less likely to receive unsolicited promotions than men. Insightful presentation from Future IM/Pact at their Gender Data Report launch in Melbourne! It was a great session on the pathways to gender parity within the Australian investment landscape. Hearing from investment leaders about the steps they've taken to bridge the gender gap was truly inspiring. ✔ When comparing gender composition from 2017 to 2024, the investment industry has increased the representation of women from 24% to 28% - a four percentage point uplift over 7 years. ✔ Research shows that over a 10-year period, female investors outperformed their male counterparts by 40 basis points on average. ✔ Women in listed markets love their roles, but the demands of always being "on" and the expectations of international travel can make these roles more challenging, especially for those with primary care responsibilities. ✔ The biggest block is at the director level, where men are five times more likely to be promoted. ✔ Proactive commitment from leaders is essential to invest in the potential of women through advocacy, sponsorship, and tailored development opportunities. ✔ Culture is one of the top 3 reasons most women join an organisation.
