The Sports Director is responsible for the operations and management of all sports-based programs as well as our new sports complex.
Job Description
Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Sports Director is responsible for day-to-day operation and management of the sports department in keeping with YMCA policies. The responsibilities of this position include program planning and delivery, staff supervision, risk management, and maintaining budget controls.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, business, or a related field and/or suitable leadership experience.
Experience with sports such as playing or coaching as well as a broad knowledge of a variety of sports, rules, and league organizations.
Experience with Microsoft Office applications; general comfort using computers and other technology.
Desire and ability to work with members of all ages. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations.
Strong interpersonal skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Outgoing, friendly, and enthusiastic personality.
Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
Must complete all required YMCA trainings in the expected timeframe.
Must be available weekends and weeknights.
Essential Functions
Planning, executing, and day-to-day management of all Lansing YMCA sports-based programs, including leagues, tournaments, clinics, and lessons, among others.
Promote a wide range of sports formats (basketball, soccer, golf simulator, pickle ball, volleyball, lacrosse, etc.) to members and non-members resulting in increased program participation.
Assist Associate Executive Director in development and implementation of an appropriate annual budget for the operations of the sports department.
Help manage, direct, and develop all departmental employees, coaches, referees, and volunteers who oversee and/or lead programs including leagues, instructional lessons, private lessons, sports camps, and other programs as assigned.
Engage with all members, participants, and families to build strong relationships toward the advancement of the Y.
Performs all other duties and functions as required.
