To that end, BOMA International is hiring a Senior Vice President to lead and advance the Organization’s operations and key initiatives, be a BOMA International brand ambassador, and to support the President & COO.


Position Summary and Objectives:


Reporting to the President & COO, the Senior Vice President provides leadership and management for BOMA International’s (including BOMI, BOMA Foundation, BOMA BEST LLC, OBS, and other affiliated organizations) staff of 48, operations, business, and business development activities, including direct supervision of association services/membership and publications; marketing, communications and sales; finance/accounting, administration and human resources; IT and operations; education, standards and meetings/events; partnerships and sponsorships; and international business and relations, to ensure the fulfillment of BOMA International’s mission and strategic plans.


Position Authority:


This key executive represents the Association to leadership, volunteers, outside organizations, and business partners. This position directs contract and partner relationship negotiations and has fiscal and signing authority.

Guides staff hiring/firing, compensation, and development. Collaborates with legal counsel on personnel issues, major contracts, business partnerships, and other association business. Provides backup and assistance to President and performs President’s duties and responsibilities as assigned in her absence.


Direct reports include Vice President of Association Services; Vice President of Marketing and Sales; Vice President of Meetings and Standards; Vice President of Education; Vice President of Finance and Administration; Vice President of Operations, and the Managing Director (the Vice President of Advocacy, Codes and Standards reports directly to the President/COO).


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Provide day-to-day leadership and manage, mentor, and invest in staff training to ensure a cohesive and efficient team is successful in achieving the annual business plan and goals of the strategic plan, including performance against a $15M budget.
  • Support the development of progressive policies in staff development, including recruiting/hiring, performance appraisals/compensation review, skill and knowledge development, career development strategies, talent retention, and benefits.
  • As a member of the executive management team, support strategic planning and annual budget/business plan development; provide recommendations and insights for business opportunities and management of programs and services; and serve as a resource to BOMA volunteer leadership, committees, and BOMA local association BAEs and leaders.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff and volunteers with ongoing initiatives at BOMA International (including BOMI, BOMA Foundation, BOMA BEST LLC, OBS, and other affiliated organizations) to achieve the business goals and ensure consistent staff support for programs.
  • Ensure efficient and effective operational systems including IT infrastructure and databases are maintained and current as well as ensuring effective organizational policies and procedures are in place.
  • Assist the President in the development and maintenance of strong and positive relations with the BOMA Officers and Executive Committee and with the efficiency and effectiveness of Board governance processes and procedures.
  • Represent BOMA at local, regional, and international conferences and business meetings to foster and maintain effective relationships that enhance BOMA’s standing in the industry and community.
  • Cultivate, negotiate, and support strategic and cooperative relationships with industry, academic, publishing, supplier, service, and other organizations that strengthen BOMA’s brand, assist BOMA to achieve its goals, and help BOMA serve its members, customers, and the industry.
  • Direct and manage the $1.7M Partnership Program, including the Home Depot member rebate program, to include recruitment, sales, and delivery of benefits to achieve long-term growth strategies.
  • Support and advance the National Advisory Council (NAC) in developing exclusive programs/events, strategic business partnerships with senior industry leadership, and a problem-solving forum and advisory group for BOMA.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President.


Required Qualifications:


  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a Vice President or senior management position with a trade or professional association with 5 years supervising two or more functional areas.
  • Experience managing teams, preferably experience managing teams of 30 or more.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience managing budgets greater than $3.5M; ideally experience managing budgets greater than $10M.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing volunteer committees and subject matter experts.
  • Strong public speaking skills and ability to travel regularly.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant work experience + High School diploma or equivalent. CAE preferred.

  • Demonstrated process management and improvement skills and experience, with the ability to transition gracefully between many dynamic projects.
  • Interest in the commercial building industry is preferred.


Dual Office Collaboration Schedule:


We offer a hybrid schedule that balances flexibility with support. Our team collaborates in our downtown Washington, D.C. office 3 days per week and in our Annapolis, Maryland office 2 days per week. This position is expected to work in the Washington, D.C. office at least 2 days per week and work in the Maryland office at least 1 day per week. Given the collaborative nature of this position, we are only considering candidates who are in or are willing to relocate to the Washington, D.C., area.


Compensation & Benefits:


The salary range for this position is $240,000 to $270,000. Additionally, BOMA provides a comprehensive benefits package including, but not limited to:
