98.9% of Africa’s vaccine supply is produced outside of Africa. But after COVID, African leaders set a target to produce 60% of Africa’s vaccines in Africa by 2040. That's a crucial goal not only for vaccine sovereignty but also to meet demand, as our CEO Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli explains below. 👇 Learn more. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/egks5nqj

We want to say a huge thank you to Dr. Jean Kaseya, director general for the Africa CDC, for mentioning ONE Campaign's research on G7 aid levels during last week's Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance investment launch and the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator. The G7's share of aid to Africa is at its lowest point in 50 years. It's time for G7 leaders to get out of the past and start prioritizing partnerships with Africa and financing our future. ONE's EU Director Emily Wigens recently sat down with Euractiv Italia to share why this month's G7 Summit was a missed opportunity for G7 leaders to commit to African partners. "It was all talk and no action...The increased promise of partnership between the G7 and the African continent included over 60 references to Africa in the communique after the summit; and despite all of that, there were very few specifics on what new financing, if any, was going to be made available to underpin these commitments." "We are the architects of our destiny... and the guardians of generations yet to come." We're thrilled to share that IyinOluwa Joshua Ajayi won our 2024 Sam Singh Memorial Award. Ajayi's writing moved us - with the data of an expert and the heart of an activist, he made a compelling call for his fellow Nigerians to take action for a sustainable future. Each year, we recognize an outstanding young leader in development policy with our Sam Singh Memorial Award. It's dedicated to Sam, our former policy colleague, who passed away in 2020. Her legacy is one of kindness, and the belief in a better, more equal future. https://lnkd.in/eXP-a_W8

Our CEO Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli recently sat down with Devex to discuss why she decided to join ONE. At first, she didn't think it was the right fit. But then she reflected on the urgent need for African voices on the global stage. She realized being CEO of ONE was "an opportunity to ensure we work with African leaders to have a shared vision about what Africa wants, not what the world thinks we need.” “Africa has always been at the center of ONE’s work and our new strategy puts African leadership and agency in sharper focus. Africa’s demand will shape our campaigns and guide our delivery.” Read more about Ndidi's leadership journey (which began at age 12 selling avocados at a local market), her entrepreneurial success, and her vision for ONE and the world. https://lnkd.in/ezFRYH88

"Organizing the world's data and making it accessible to people is a key step in understanding these issues, but often the data just lives in too many different places." - Jorge Rivera, ONE's Data Director. Having accessible data is key in fighting injustice and inequality. In partnership with Google's Data Commons, ONE is making that possible. ONE's Joseph Kraus and Jorge Rivera explain below. https://lnkd.in/ejGiEweY

The ONE Campaign reposted this
📢 Today we unveiled our new strategy for 2026-2030, aiming to protect 500 million children and save over 8 million lives. We vaccinated 1 billion children between 2000-2020. Now, we aim to reach the next billion in half the time! With global support, our ambitious plan is within reach. Our plan requires at least US$ 9 billion in new donor funding. Already, the United States of America, France, Spain, the private sector and philanthropy have pledged early support worth US$ 2.4 billion. Today also marked the launch of the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA) which will revolutionise Africa’s resilience in the face of pandemics and other health emergencies. “Over twenty years, Gavi has vaccinated a whole generation – over one billion children. Our message today to our donors is that, with their help we can achieve even greater impact, helping to create a world that is safer for everyone.” – Gavi Board Chair José Manuel Barroso. #VaccinesWork #forourfuture
