Parent Liaison

Primary Purpose

The purpose of the campus-based parent liaison is to empower families in Lockhart Independent School District to thrive. This position will help improve the feeling of parent connectedness to schools by increasing opportunities for parent involvement and engaging parents to earn their trust and build connections. Additionally, the parent liaison will work to identify internal, local, and state organizations to strengthen collaboration. Also, the parent liaison will help identify the unique needs of families and connect them with the school and community resources and services to help them thrive. These supports will contribute to improved outcomes for student success in school by providing support for families.

Qualifications

Education Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (Recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and safe driving record verified by Texas Department of Public Safety (meets and maintains liability coverage eligibility)

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Ability to speak English and Spanish required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to make oral presentations and conduct training before a large audience
  • Experience in earning trust and building relationships
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of community organizations and resources and how to effectively operate with this community framework
  • Ability to organize self and manage time effectively
  • Must have driver’s license, liability insurance, and personal transportation
  • Must be willing to work evenings or an occasional weekend when necessary

Minimum Experience

Experience working/volunteering with parents, working/ volunteering in schools, or working/volunteering in family-serving organizations is preferred.

Major Responsibilities And Duties

  • Serve as the liaison between the parents and services provided by the school district, campuses, and services available in the community, region or state.
  • Connect with parents to earn trust and build relationships
  • Increase opportunities for parent involvement in school
  • Plan and coordinate activities/trainings at school for parents.
  • Increase outreach to parents
  • Improve communication with parents
  • Identify unique needs of families and potential barriers to wellness and stability
  • Refer parents to services and supports to meet the unique needs of families
  • Partner with parents and school staff to ensure students access to needed services and supports
  • Provide case management to families in need to facilitate successful navigation through systems
  • Raise awareness of available resources to all families through multiple channels
  • Partner with school to help with efforts to increase student attendance for students who are chronically absent
  • Identify Community Partners and engage in cultivating relationships to create a strong web of support
  • Collaborate with partners to establish systems of referrals to ensure ease of access by families
  • Raise visibility of partners and partnerships through co-hosted events for families
  • Raise awareness of partners and partnerships in community through social media, newsletter contributions, and local media
  • Establish network of support with other school district parent liaisons to ensure sharing of best practices to harness collective wisdom.
  • Maintain accurate records of grant-required activities to track progress on grant goals and performance measures
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned to improve parental and community involvement.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
  • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer, digital camera, copier, audiovisual equipment, telephone, fax machine, scanner, shredder, and other equipment applicable to the position.

Posture: Sitting, Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling, and lifting.

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; Frequent district and community travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
