Position Summary

The Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches is seeking an experienced Early Childhood Assistant Director for our Palm Beach preschool location. The Assistant Director is an integral part of the administrative team. The Assistant Director demonstrates leadership abilities by creating and maintaining a positive learning environment for all families enrolled. The Assistant Director assists the Director in operating the center in accordance with DCF policies, procedures, and state licensing standards to provide an educational, nurturing, and safe environment for children, staff, and families. This individual assists in all school operations and assumes all Director responsibilities and duties in the absence of the Director and is responsible to assist in the planning and implementing all ECLC programs, events, and fundraising activities. Work is supervised by the Early Childhood Director. Work schedule is generally 40 hours during each workweek Monday – Friday with occasional evening or weekend work as directed by work schedule, programs and deadlines. Travel between JCC locations may be required.

Position Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Promote a nurturing and engaging atmosphere for children, families and staff that reflects respect, compassion for young children
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with families and children enrolled in ECLC, youth and camp programs, staff, officers, board members, donors, and professional staff from other agencies.
  • Keeps the Director informed of any necessary information regarding the care and safety of children
  • Lead and motivate educators to ensure overall success of the department by communicating agency vision and strategy, job expectations, coaching and fostering continued professional development
  • Mentor, support and collaborate with educators to continually deepen their thinking about teaching and learning and their ability to construct meaningful and responsive learning experiences with the children
  • Guide the development and implementation of Jewish and classroom curriculum; review and revise as needed
  • Ensure that the Jewish educational vision is reflected in the classroom practices
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings, agency-wide programs, and program committees, as assigned
  • Assists in planning and leading staff meetings/training
  • Assists in new hire orientation
  • Meeting with families as needed with Director
  • Touring perspective families in absence of the Director
  • Assisting in classrooms with behavior management and support educators as needed
  • Observations in classrooms
  • Assist educators in aftercare planning and implementation of activities
  • Plans, implements, and runs camp activities, calendar, shows, and schedules
  • Assists in preparing school year calendar
  • Assists in classroom coverage and scheduling of staff
  • Manages preschool staff timecards/liaison with HR regarding timecards
  • Handles all room reservations for events and classes
  • Assist in special events set up, planning, and implementing
  • Learns and utilize our registration system (personify)
  • Covers preschool front desk as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or other member of the Executive Team

  • You’re flexible – you’re open to the work hours (opening and closing the preschool) and work location (i.e., Boynton Beach or Palm Beach Gardens campus) needed by the business, including evenings and weekend events as needed;
  • You’re a productive, engaged multi-tasker – you know how to prioritize, work efficiently, effectively and independently to manage multiple projects and competing tasks and demands in a fast-paced environment;
  • You’re a relationship builder – you’ll work collaboratively with agency staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere, and maintain courteous and professional working relationships with colleagues, volunteers, board members, vendors and outside contacts of agency;
