Director of National Sales – Retail

Full-time, Remote Work, Travel Required

Mulay’s Sausage Corp. is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of National Retail Sales to lead and grow our national sales efforts. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in CPG retail food sales, strong leadership and strategic planning skills, and excellent communication abilities. They should be highly organized, results-focused, and capable of managing budgets, forecasts, and key industry relationships. This role requires a growth mindset, data-driven decision-making, and a willingness to travel at least 25% of the time. The successful candidate will build, inspire, and motivate a high-performing sales team while maintaining Mulay’s reputation for delivering delicious, sustainable, and trusted products. JOB DESCRIPTION

Mulay’s Sausage Corp. is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of National Retail Sales to lead and grow our national sales efforts. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of accomplishments in CPG retail food sales and will be a strong leader and strategist with exceptional communication skills. This role demands someone who is highly organized, focused on results, and capable of managing people, budgets, forecasting, report analytics, brokers, distributors, and retailers.

The successful candidate will possess a growth mindset, be data-driven, and work well with the Mulay’s team while being self-motivated. The ability to develop and manage monthly reports, budgets and forecasts is crucial, as is the capacity to inspire and motivate the sales team with energy and charisma. Strong skills in promotional planning, goal setting, and execution are essential.

A commitment to travel at least 25% of the time is required, as the role involves attending trade shows, industry events, establishing markets and promoting Mulay’s products and network with key stakeholders. The candidate should maintain a positive attitude, think creatively, and be future driven, with a love for learning and an openness to personal and professional growth. Experience in the natural food sector and a background in the meat industry is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Strategy Development

  • Develop and implement effective national sales strategies to drive growth and establish Mulay’s as a leading brand in the market.
  • Focus on growing national sales and establishing Mulay’s as a nationally known, well-respected brand.
  • Plan, develop, and implement effective national sales strategy programs and policies to exceed annual revenue goals.


Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of budgeting and forecasting with monthly sales reporting and analysis ensuring sales are in alignment with forecasts, sales objectives, and revenue goals.
  • Develop annual sales forecasts and trade budgets and manage these budgets and forecasts.


Relationship Development

  • Build and maintain key relationships with distributors, brokers, and retailers to expand our market reach.
  • Identify, develop, and open new key industry relationships with distributors and brokers.


Team Management

  • Hire, train, develop, and lead a high-performing sales team, setting clear performance goals and monitoring and nurturing their progress.
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the sales team, tracking, monitoring, and reporting progress.


Promotional Planning and Execution

  • Plan and execute promotional activities in coordination with the marketing team to boost sales and brand awareness.
  • Coordinate with marketing to develop and execute promotional calendars.
  • Communicate all marketing needs to the team in a timely fashion for on-time production and delivery.


Market Research and Sales Execution

  • Continuously educate oneself on current industry information and trends, identifying new opportunities and developing effective strategies to maintain and capture market share.
  • Research and evaluate current and potential markets for sales opportunities and develop strategies to capture them.


Client Relations and Professionalism

  • Ensure existing accounts are serviced and maintained, visiting when in the market.
  • Ensure professional and effective sales processes, maintaining Mulay’s reputation for quality and service.


Sales Coordination

  • Oversee and manage all sales functions, including hiring sales brokers and working with distributor representatives nationwide.


Collaboration with Marketing

  • Coordinate sales activities with Mulay’s marketing team to identify market strategies and goals targeted at sales growth.
  • Communicate all marketing needs to the team in a timely fashion for on-time production and delivery.


Reporting and Analysis

  • Regularly report on sales data, revenue performance, providing detailed insights and recommendations to senior management.


Travel Requirements

  • Travel to make sales presentations, attend trade shows, industry events, and market checks at least 25% of the time.
  • Attend Mulay’s meetings when in-person attendance is required.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least five years of senior-level sales experience in the retail food industry, with a strong understanding of sales forecasting, promotions, and related techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve and exceed sales targets, with a focus on results and numbers.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, organization, and presentation skills.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning abilities, with experience managing people, budgets, and various sales functions.
  • Willingness to travel at least 25% of the time for sales presentations, trade shows, industry events, and general company business.
  • Energetic, charismatic, and capable of inspiring and motivating a sales team and having fun working with peers.
  • Creative thinker with a positive attitude and a commitment to continuous learning and growth.
  • Experience in the natural food sector and meat industry is an advantage.
