Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) to lead our accounting and financial reporting functions. This executive role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, financial management, and leadership, with a focus on driving operational efficiency and ensuring transparency in financial reporting.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting and Compliance:
    • Oversee the preparation and dissemination of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and statement of equity.
    • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), regulatory requirements, and industry standards in financial reporting.
    • Coordinate external audits, reviews, and assessments by independent auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Accounting Operations Management:
    • Direct and supervise the accounting team in daily operations, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, payroll, and financial close processes.
    • Implement and maintain effective internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets, mitigate risks, and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
    • Monitor accounting activities, reconcile accounts, and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Strategic Financial Planning and Analysis:
    • Provide strategic financial insights and analysis to senior management and stakeholders to support decision-making, budgeting, and forecasting.
    • Develop financial models, projections, and scenarios to assess business performance, evaluate investment opportunities, and optimize financial outcomes.
    • Collaborate with executive leadership on financial strategies, operational efficiencies, and cost management initiatives.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, financial reporting requirements, and statutory filings at the federal, state, and local levels.
    • Assess financial risks, monitor regulatory changes, and implement risk mitigation strategies to protect the organization’s financial interests.
    • Serve as a liaison with external auditors, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders on accounting and compliance matters.
  • Leadership and Team Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Provide guidance, training, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff skills and knowledge in accounting practices and regulations.
    • Promote a high standard of ethical conduct, integrity, and transparency in financial operations and reporting.
Compensation: Compensation for a Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) typically includes a base salary ranging from $150,000 to $250,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and the size of the organization. Additional compensation may include performance-based bonuses, equity incentives, health insurance, retirement plans, and other executive benefits.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial management, and leadership roles, preferably in a corporate environment.
