Indexing Labor Force Participation Rates to the start of the pandemic for various states shows an interesting picture. While rates in Michigan and Florida both experienced larger declines during the pandemic, they have bounced back in both states. The story is nearly the opposite for the rates in California and Mississippi while the Labor Force Participation Rate for Texas appears to have experienced the best of both worlds to some extent--a smaller decline during the pandemic followed by growth (though it has moderated over the past year).

Growth is one of the most important parts of leadership. We don't get to a certain place and decide that we're done. If you're a leader who wants to guide and mentor your teams, it's vital to accept and embrace that the work is never done, and that's a great thing. Happy Monday! Comfort zones - we all have them - those cozy little spaces where everything feels safe, predictable, and familiar. Why would we want to leave something that feels so comfortable and secure? I've come to realize that within the limits of our comfort zones, we may find contentment, but rarely do we find true fulfillment. It's like living in a bubble, shielded from outside world. Sure, it's safe, but safety often comes at the cost of stagnation. Stepping outside of that comfort zone requires courage, vulnerability, and a willingness to embrace uncertainty. I recall moments in my own life when I've had to venture beyond the borders of my comfort zone. Each time, there was a mix of excitement and fear, unsure of what lies ahead, but with each step forward, I discovered something remarkable: growth. It's outside of our comfort zones where we confront our limitations and really discover our true potential. Whether it's pursuing a new career path, traveling to unfamiliar places, or simply having conversations with new people (personally or professionally), these experiences push us to stretch beyond what we thought possible. But it's not just about personal growth; it's also about connection. When we step outside of our comfort zones, we open ourselves up to new people, cultures, and perspectives. We break down barriers and build bridges of understanding and empathy. Of course, venturing outside of our comfort zones doesn’t come without challenges. There are moments of discomfort, doubt, and even failure. But it's through these struggles that we learn, adapt, and ultimately flourish. When I look back, some of the most memorable experiences of my life have occurred at the exit ramp of my comfort zone. Whether it was conquering a fear, overcoming my addiction, or simply trying something new, each step outside of familiarity has improved my life in ways I never imagined. So for today, remind yourself that the best things—growth, connection, fulfillment—are waiting for you at the exit ramp of your comfort zones. Even though the path may be uncertain and even scary at times, the rewards are unlimited. Go step out, embrace the unknown, and discover the extraordinary that lies beyond your comfort zones. #courage #positive #gratitude #motivation

Employees don't typically leave their jobs because of the work itself but rather because of poor leadership. Many employees feel undervalued, unsupported, and unappreciated, which often leads to confusion, frustration, and a lack of direction, making it difficult for them to perform at their best. Additionally, when employees feel like their contributions are not recognized or acknowledged, it can lead to feelings of resentment and dissatisfaction. All of these factors can contribute to a negative work environment that ultimately drives employees to seek employment opportunities elsewher Can’t agree more.

While quiet quitting relates to disgruntled workers doing the bare minimum their job requires, resenteeism takes the dissatisfaction to a new level. In this scenario, workers often openly express their frustration, which can contribute to a toxic work environment. Their open resentment may arise from various factors: feelings that they’re undervalued, underpaid or overworked. Maybe it's that there’s no room for advancement or that they have to work in-office while others can work from home. Alternatively, they might feel trapped—they don’t see job prospects elsewhere that meet their needs.

In just a little more than a year the AICPA is finally getting religion after raining fire and brimstone on anyone who dare suggest what has become obvious ...the 150 credit hour requirement added nothing to the profession and was a colossal mistake from the beginning. This was not a case of government overreach, rather the AICPA and the major firms actively championed this legislative change to add a full year of college to be a CPA .They own the mistake and they own rapidly fixing this vs blaming a mobility issue they created as an excuse for continuing bad policy. Nearly every CPA in America over the age of 50 (myself included) has the exact same educational & professional requirements (120 credit hours) as is being proposed - all of us were grandfathered in with full mobility. It really shouldn't take years of study to propose legislation to quickly provide that same mobility. At our best, CPAs ask the hard questions and force our clients or companies to address facts- especially financial facts. We also point out that the longer a solution is delayed, the more painful the consequences Unfortunately, the leadership of our profession does not subject itself to the same level of scrutiny. The storm clouds associated with the 150 credit hour requirement have been visible for many years As the number of accountants continued to decline over the last decade the profession's leadership looked around for any other solution rather than the obvious: the added cost of $50 to $100 thousand or more in lost wages and higher tuition drove away new accountants. The sad irony here is that you really don't need to be a certified public accountant to figure this out. Years of neglecting this underlying cause are the reason why the profession is seeing a huge drop off in new accountants. It's past time to act. https://lnkd.in/e47YSePh

Happy Monday! I love this quote as it shows the power of resilience, optimism, and personal empowerment. I know sometimes it’s hard for us to do, but keeping a positive attitude and embracing our challenges with a smile can honestly be transforming, turning our adversities into opportunities. Learning to smile at every situation means we have to shift to a mindset of optimism and resilience, regardless of our circumstances. We all know that life is filled with ups and downs, successes, and setbacks, but how we choose to respond to these situations ultimately shapes our experiences and outcomes. When we choose to smile, we take charge of our emotions and reactions and not let external events guide our inner state of being. Smiling in the face of adversity doesn't mean we should minimize the challenges we encounter. Instead, it's really about acknowledging the difficulty of the situation while keeping a sense of hope. A smile can be a powerful tool for shifting our perspective, reframing our problems as opportunities for growth and learning from each of them. Seeing challenges as opportunities to prove our strength and ability can reframe those setbacks as stepping stones to our personal development. Instead of being daunted by our obstacles, we can view them as true tests of our resilience, character, and capabilities. Each challenge we overcome strengthens our confidence and reinforces our belief in our ability to overcome future obstacles. Before I tried this approach, I’d just have a little pity party by myself every time some type of roadblock came my way. I’ve had to navigate my fair share of challenges – battling my alcoholism, divorce, losing a job during the pandemic, having two struggling young adult children, etc., but by approaching each of these challenges with a positive attitude and yes a smile, I have been able to navigate these difficult situations and come out stronger on the other side. This mindset not only empowered me to face challenges head-on but it also gave me confidence and in turn inspired and helped others. Smiling was not always easy in each of these situations. It required a LOT of practice, patience, and self-awareness. There were definitely moments when keeping a positive attitude felt challenging or even impossible. It was during these times, I had to give myself grace and self-compassion and even ask for support from others who could give me encouragement and perspective. So for today, see that “smile” as an opportunity to prove your strength and ability to navigating life's challenges with resilience and optimism. When you embrace a positive attitude and view setbacks as opportunities for growth, you can harness your inner strength and transform your adversity into triumph. #courage #positive #gratitude #motivation

I finally did it. I asked for help. After yet another appointment, with new concerns highlighted, I decided I can no longer do this all on my own. The registration process through Carers ACT is eye opening in and of itself. It brings to the surface all of the challenges you are facing that you simply don’t get the time to think about during the day to day struggle of just trying to get through. If you know me well, you’ve probably heard the words ‘bloody awesome’ way too many times. But my wellbeing score was very low. 😢 That was a bit of a reality check to say the least! Why am I posting this here? Because there are many people like me in the workforce and you are undoubtedly unaware of the heavy burden they carry as either a family or friend carer. I’m one of the lucky ones as I am supported by an amazing team at work and an organisation that has been quite flexible in regards to working hours, leave and working from home when absolutely necessary. But not everyone is so fortunate. If you are reading this and you are in a similar situation to me… don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you are an employer or a work colleague and you know someone in a situation like this… please don’t hesitate to offer help. Most of the time most people just don’t know what help is available to them. #carers #carersact #workplacementalhealth

Year over year, we have seen increases in the number of workers who have participated in the gig economy. Across sectors, gig experience increased by a range of 7% to 8% compared to the previous year.
