  • ST | Smart city: ST’s connectivity solution for Electric Vehicle

    Arrow Times Asia

The smart city ecosystem is emerging as a key strategy for a more efficient and sustainable society, by opening the way to a new wave of innovative applications. Among the smart city subsystems and assets, Electric Vehicle Charging is the area that will be affected by new developments in the next few years. ST is well positioned to address this market by providing all devices needed for this application, including the new Broadband Power Line SoC device that incorporates HomePlug GP/AV Modem.

  • Optimizing Power Consumption in Networked Devices

Power Line Communications and Its Applications (ISPLC), 2012 16th IEEE International Symposium on Power Line Communications

As networked devices have become less expensive and more capable, the market for these devices has exploded. Further, users are demanding greater speeds, better performance, and seamless operation from these devices. User demand for better QoS and better device interoperability is driving the development of devices with multiple network interfaces, and standards for integrating multiple interfaces into a single logical network. Proliferation of devices and multiple network interfaces means that power consumption at the networking layer becomes an increasingly relevant concern for device owners and operators. In this paper, we present methods and review approaches for reducing power consumption in four domains: in a single network interface in a single device; in a single network across all devices sharing that network; in a single device with multiple network interfaces connected to different media types; and across the union of devices with multiple network interfaces connected to different media types.

  • Intelligent, self-aware powerline conditioning and communication node

    Issued US

    Abstract

Powerline networks are inherently noisy and subject to power surges, spikes, and other events. Devices exist to combat these issues and protect electrical appliances that are connected downstream from the power sources for theses devices, but these devices usually also severely limit data communication that may also be desired on this network. This invention provides an intelligent, self-aware powerline conditioning and communication node that allows for, or even improves, data…

  • Method and system for maximizing data throughput rate in a power line communications system by modifying payload symbol length

    Issued US

Data throughput rate in a power line communications ("PLC") system is controlled by generating PLC carrier signals in accordance with a PLC signal frame structure containing payload symbols where the payload symbol length is selected based on at least one of a PLC system channel quality and node configuration data. The selected payload symbol length determines the processing operations that a source PLC transceiver performs for generating PLC signals or that a destination PLC transceiver…

Data throughput rate in a power line communications ("PLC") system is controlled by generating PLC carrier signals in accordance with a PLC signal frame structure containing payload symbols where the payload symbol length is selected based on at least one of a PLC system channel quality and node configuration data. The selected payload symbol length determines the processing operations that a source PLC transceiver performs for generating PLC signals or that a destination PLC transceiver performs for extracting information content from received PLC signals. The payload symbol lengths can be selected to maximize the data throughput rate while maintaining compatibility with prior art PLC system protocols and standards that require a PLC signal frame structure and its payload portion to have fixed, predetermined lengths.
