How can you make sure your travel services are accessible for clients from different cultures?
When thinking about cultural respect from the position of planning travel, you need to understand your own blindspots and assumptions about traveling to a particular destination, the perspective of your clients, and of course most importantly what's appropriate for where you're traveling to. Using on the ground partners who are the authentic storytellers and place ambassadors is step 1; you should think about travel planning as partnership building with locals, and not becoming a non-local fake 'expert' on everywhere. New travel planners should learn how to place limits on clients' requests, and when to say no, which can be very difficult.

How can you create a memorable travel experience?
Stop planning. We've all bought into the over-planning madness, and it's killing the joy of serendipitous discovery. Travel memories are made from emotions, the most powerful of which are ones like surprise and awe. When we've looked at 800 reviews and 4,000 photos of a place or a restaurant, we're just setting ourselves up for disappointment. Stop thinking everything on your trip needs to be "the best"—that's an invented category by blogs and magazines. Make your travel experience about discovery. Of course it's important to make some reservations and have a structure, but don't let the overplanning suffocate the trip. Create space for simply wandering. Wake up, and get excited for what a totally unknown day will hold for you.
