How can you create a memorable travel experience?

If you are new to travel start with a bucket-list destination which for most usually involves bigger countries and cities and can make you feel more comfortable. More experienced travelers can explore new regions and areas that may be more focused on personal interests such as art, history, etc. Wherever you may travel create a story that you can tell for a lifetime. One very important process is choosing the destination when you're in a positive frame of mind, then look at it and all that the destination offers, the things that excites you, the things which piques your interest, and the complexities of getting around. Procure the services of quality local guides. Not only will you learn more than walking around with your nose in a guidebook, you will also engage more with local people. Eat in recommended local restaurants, particularly if the cuisine is different than you’re accustomed to and, for me anyway, visit local markets. The desire to trade is universal and encourages conversation. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to interact even with a language barrier!

I love helping clients identify local experiences when they're in the destination. Using local guides for tours, connecting with a hotel concierge to identify local favorite restaurants, and searching to see if there is an annual event happening during a client visit. I also encourage clients to avoid scheduling 24hrs a day. They're on vacation, and should they see something not on their plan, I want them to have the time to experience it. Finally, I encourage clients to try new things and try things they wouldn't have the opportunity to experience everywhere. I went dog sledding in Alaska and remember that experience to this day.

Document, but don't over-document. Learn to take fewer photos, but make them count. Consider purchasing an analog camera (like the popular Polaroid ones) and decide you're only going to take 10 photos that day. Or 5. Or 1. Each photo will become more meaningful, and you'll find that your memory pays more care to actually experiencing the moment when you're not just spending that moment recording it for the future you.

Capture memories of your trip by all means but if all of your holiday album pictures are selfies you’ve somewhat missed the point…

Use the exposure to a different environment as an opportunity to reflect on where you are in life and what’s truly important to you. Travelling can help crystallise the answers to some questions you’ve been pondering. And potentially lead to big decisions you wouldn’t otherwise have made…

In my experience we always should expect the unexpected while traveling both in positive and negative way, being adventures is one of the best thing a traveler should be. Planning is always good but over planning will ruin your trip and make you feel like a school trip, be flexible and adoptable but most importantly don't stop travelling :-)
