Say it with me: incentives drive behavior. Biggest concern I hear from Stellantis dealers (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, etc): Incentives are out of whack -- in a big way. The automaker has abruptly stopped paying some of its dealers for positive customer surveys and is instead paying them on the "number of cars ordered." (???) It's unclear to me at the moment how far and wide this has spread (nationally vs. regionally) and how many dealers have been impacted... But either way, feels like an uncalculated, short-term move by a brand struggling to hit sales targets. Weird move.

Car dealerships make MORE money on the after market products & services than the actual car itself! That’s right. This is why the F&I (who works closely with the salesperson) pushes hard on wear & tear packages, tire & rim protections, Paint Protection Film (PPF), extended warranties, TAG systems and the list goes on! Here is an example of the commission breakdown when they sell you a TAG for the car at a Honda dealership: Price you pay: $699+tax+interest if you add it to your monthly payments Dealership cost: $100 70% of profit goes to dealership 20% goes to the F&I 10% goes to the sales person **You should know that all the after market products & services can be negotiated too should it be of interest to you** This is where we at Autos Consultants shine. Recorded with a powerhouse dealer today: Rita Case from Rick Case Automotive Group. Lemmmmmme tell ya .. This was an eye-opening conversation. Why? Because this isn’t a dealer group — It’s a destination: - Barber shop on-site - Gas station on-site (at cost to consumers!) - A Courthouse! Yes, you read that correctly. They pretty much give you every reason to come on property… And guess what happens once you’re there… 1) You got your cheap gas ✅ 2) You got a fresh haircut (i confirmed the barbershop is actually busy) ✅ 3) Hopefully you’re avoiding the courthouse and not going to jail.. ✅ And here’s what you think to yourself: “Hmm.. Maybe just maybe I should give Rick Case Auto Group a shot at earning my business” But it gets even better… They also *double* the manufacturer’s warranty on every car for every customer. Buying a Kia/Hyundai? You’re getting a 20 year warranty (!) Wild … All I can say is this: Rita is a marketer at heart and knows how to drive traffic to a dealership better than 99% of of the industry.
