Car dealerships make MORE money on the after market products & services than the actual car itself! That’s right. This is why the F&I (who works closely with the salesperson) pushes hard on wear & tear packages, tire & rim protections, Paint Protection Film (PPF), extended warranties, TAG systems and the list goes on! Here is an example of the commission breakdown when they sell you a TAG for the car at a Honda dealership: Price you pay: $699+tax+interest if you add it to your monthly payments Dealership cost: $100 70% of profit goes to dealership 20% goes to the F&I 10% goes to the sales person **You should know that all the after market products & services can be negotiated too should it be of interest to you** This is where we at Autos Consultants shine. We don’t just take care of the negotiations of the car itself but we take care of all products and services proposed by the F&I It’s time to play smart! It’s also time to give POWER BACK to the consumer..

A car broker, also known as a car buying service, acts as a professional intermediary between you and a wide network of dealerships. Here are some reasons why you might consider using a car broker: Convenience: Car brokers find models that match your preferences and needs. They handle negotiations with dealers, potentially saving you time and effort. In some cases, they can even handle paperwork and deliver the car to your doorstep. Insider Knowledge: Brokers typically have deep insights into the automotive market. They understand dealership sales tactics, negotiation strategies, and profit margins. Their expertise helps level the playing field between you and the dealership. Cost Savings: Car brokers can often negotiate a better purchase price than you could on your own. The savings they secure might even cover their service fee. Some brokers charge a flat rate, while others take a percentage of the money saved on your purchase.

Is a Pre-Purchase Inspection worth the cost?? Let me answer that question with a question. Is saving $99,000 more or less important to you than saving less than 1% of that $99K? Let me explain, here we have a 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet that was for sale at a local dealership. The potential buyer calls me from Michigan and hires me to inspect this supposed "CLEAN CARFAX", 1 owner Porsche that was listed as "Celebrity Owned". Upon arrival at the dealership, I was informed by 2 separate salesmen about how clean and beautiful this car is, To which I always reply, "𝑰'𝒎 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒃𝒖𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕, 𝑰'𝒎 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕". My job isn't to sell the car OR kill the deal. My job is to inspect, verify, inform and educate the potential buyer on the condition of the car and the accuracy of the seller's claims. During my inspection, I found that the car had previous damage on the right side and it had been repainted. The claim of having "New Tires" was easy to spot as false when verifying the date codes on the tires. When I asked if there was any proof of Celebrity Ownership, I was told, "𝑵𝒐, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐 𝒅𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏". When I called the dealership to schedule the appointment to inspect, I always ask if there is a lift on-site so an undercarriage inspection can take place, I was assured that this was no problem, however, once on-site I was told by several employees that "No one knows how to operate the lift" So I was not able to see any discrepancies with the underside of the car. For less than 1% of the total purchase price of this Porsche, I saved this buyer from a $99,000 mistake!!! NEVER take a dealer's word for it, NEVER trust what a seller is selling you. Have it inspected by a disinterested 3rd party that will provide you with the truth and prepares you to make a wise investment decision. Pricing is hardly ever the objection. It’s usually your offer. Let’s put this into perspective 👇🏼 You’re in the market for a car. You drive to two different dealerships. One dealership is offering a 2023 Chevy Tahoe Z71 for $70,000. Possibly a $3k discount. Nothing else included. The other dealership is offering you the same vehicle, but includes free oil changes for a year, an extended warranty, your first set of tires for free, and roadside hazard within 30 miles of their dealership. Still $70,000. The difference? The offer. The first offer sucks compared to the second offer. So now the first offer isn’t actually worth $70,000 anymore, it may be worth only $60,000. Therefore, the objection of “pricing” is only coming into play because your offer. If you’re continuously getting pricing objections, look at what you’re offer is compare to the competition.

There is a saying which ends with the name Sherlock. It’s quite obvious that the whole plan behind the agency/direct sales model is to create more retained profit on the OEM side of the business, not dealership side. The writing is quite clearly on the wall. The issue seems to be that the OEMs don’t seem to care, they have a very blinkered view, that sees their franchise network being what it is, providing a state-of-the-art facility, for aftersales and presumably pre-owned sales, whilst wiping out the profit centre of new car sales and importantly finance sales and commissions. The two are at odds, as taking profit out of a business will lead to lower capital investment and a decline in business property quality. If the approach is to reduce the number of franchised outlets, meaning throughput in aftersales only will increase, this being the only way to sustain the business, then the whole business model will be destroyed and we shall see the emergence of aftersales centres on industrial estates and no showrooms. I think we shall see some very long established businesses decide it’s not for them and family names, perhaps the likes of Listers, will chose to sell their valuable property for other types of development.
