Here's how you can utilize your experience to drive culture change as a late career professional.
One of the best ways to contribute to an organization and help shift their culture is to provide mentorship. No matter what stage you are in your career you can always benefit by a sounding board. Choosing a mentor who has been in a role before can add a point of view along with experience. Being a mentor means bringing your lifetime of experience both professional and personal to your organization. Sometimes the relationship is formal so there should be parameters set to provide guidance on culture change in a meaningful way. Many times it’s informal benefiting your peers as well as your senior leaders by adding perspective and ideas. Even the CEO can use help when shifting culture. Supporting leadership through change can be invaluable.

What is the best way to measure employee engagement after a leadership development program?
Communicating results is critical if you want to engage your audience and ensure their ongoing interaction and feedback. If you reach out for feedback, your employees will expect you will do something with the results. They took the time to participate, they’ll expect leadership to take the time to share learnings preferably in a forum encouraging dialogue. But it’s not enough to just share findings, your findings must be accompanied by plans and concrete actions determined by the data you collected. It will help the solidify that the new leadership is listening and working with employees toward the future.

How can you create a transparent culture during team management?
My mother always advised treat others as you would have them treat you. It seems such a simple adage, yet finding the balance of honesty and respectfulness can be an art form when it comes to providing feedback. Many of us hear the word feedback and cringe. We connote feedback as being negative or containing only meaningless platitudes. But feedback done correctly is a powerful learning mechanism. If the feedback is objective and focused on opportunities instead of dwelling on the negative, it is easier to hear and absorb. Telling me the truth is in my best interest. Telling me the truth with kindness builds trust. Trust among colleagues strengthens culture.

How can you coach executives to overcome imposter syndrome?
Something I practice and advise others to try as well is the daily mirror exercise. For 30 days before you start your day, look in the mirror and say aloud all of your attributes. Also include the ones you have doubts about. At the end of those 30 days, you will believe it. Do anything for thirty days and it becomes a habit!
