Connecting with creative industry leaders at the BrXnd.ai conference was refreshing. Two takeaways: 1) A.I is a feedback machine, not a generation engine. Marketers don't need more ideas. We need to get to better ideas faster. 2) Hallucinations are a feature, not a bug. The A.I conversation has taken a serious tone over the past year; let's not forget it's all-new, so have fun and experiment. *Shameless plug* the McKinney EDIB team built out a Custom GPT in February; it's an awesome example of having fun with tech. Forester’s Amy Hayes shares how younger buyers are changing the face of B2B buying at #B2BSummit. They favor a balanced approach to value that includes financial and other sustainability/DEI/CSR benefits. They engage in more participatory decision-making, seek a common co-created cause with vendors, and expect seamless buying through self-service. They are not just a group of buyers now, but the majority.

During our family gap year, there were so many times we had to navigate the bustling streets of a foreign city, where we [more often than not] found ourselves lost in a maze of unfamiliar alleys and markets. As I trade an aisle seat for an office chair, some days I feel like navigating Tokyo's train system is easier than navigating B2B marketing. Dang, it's tough.... the pressure's on to "do more with less," and the buying game keeps changing. But, if I can find my way around a foreign city without speaking the local language [chaos is an understatement], you can find a method to the B2B marketing madness. Gone are the days of one-size-fits-all marketing strategies. Relevancy reigns supreme to guiding buyers on their self-education journey and showcasing product value. Yet, delivering personalized experiences across the customer lifecycle? It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack...while riding a unicycle. Most of us are scrambling to keep up, but with a whopping 68% of customers threatening to walk if their experience with a potential vendor/brand isn't relevant, it's a game of high stakes. So, let's get back to basics. Remember the 4 Ps of marketing? As a compliment to 4th P [promotion], there are four Rs of engagement: Right Audience, Right Content, Right Channel, and Right Time. Talked to a lot of CMOs and #marketing decision makers today and it’s interesting how many feel the pressure to respond to executive teams spooked by what might be but isn’t yet. New channels, predicted channel collapse or erosion, #AI, data issues, etc, are often real challenges and opportunities (like the shadow is real) but not necessarily the ones that are most significant today (or this year). My guess is that the jousting at windmill’s (shadows) is a more real threat to 2024 and 2025 marketing outcomes.
