This trend of diversity leaders and executives closely collaborating with others in adjacent positions in order to create mutually beneficial strategies is one of the more exciting ways these leaders are leaving their mark on the structures within companies that so often hold diversity initiatives back. What are affluence indicators and what do they tell you? 🤔 Affluence indicators are data points or characteristics that provide insight into an individual's or household's level of wealth or financial resources. These indicators can help you identify and segment donors or prospects based on their capacity to give and tailor fundraising strategies accordingly. Here are some common affluence indicators and what they tell you: 💸 Income: Income is one of the most straightforward affluence indicators. Higher income levels generally correlate with greater capacity to give larger donations. 💰 Net Worth: Net worth provides a comprehensive measure of wealth, including savings, investments, real estate, and other assets. Donors with higher net worths typically have greater capacity for substantial charitable contributions. 🏡 Home Value: Homeowners with properties in affluent neighborhoods or high-value real estate markets may have greater financial resources available for charitable giving. 📈 Investments and Financial Assets: Ownership of investments such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or retirement accounts can signal affluence. Individuals with significant investment portfolios or diversified financial assets may have greater discretionary income to allocate towards philanthropy. 💼 Occupation and Industry: Professionals in fields such as finance, law, medicine, or technology often have higher earning potential and may be more likely to make substantial charitable contributions. 📚 Education Level: Donors with advanced degrees or professional certifications may have greater capacity for philanthropic giving. 🤝 Philanthropic History: Past charitable giving behavior is a strong indicator of affluence and philanthropic inclination. 🛍️ Lifestyle and Spending Habits: Observing discretionary spending habits can provide insights into a donor's capacity for charitable giving. The changing dynamics in leadership, especially Black Women’s leadership, is influenced by a broader trend of organizations making decisions that appear to be in direct conflict with the leaders giving their time and effort to those organizations. I thought this piece had some great suggestions for leaders, but it's clear that a broader cultural conversation needs to happen here where nonprofit boards reexamine how conflict can impede an organization's core mission. #Nonprofit #Justice #BlackLeadership

Finance is one of the core tools that I believe can have direct ties to the impacts of nonprofit organizations. I try to use empathy in my approach to supporting others, as it is through empathy that we can truly gain perspective. However, when looking at a nonprofit, the effectiveness of its mission is seldom measured by its capacity for empathy and is instead measured by its capacity for financial efficacy. Effective use of Form 990 is a great example of this. Through a nuanced understanding of disclosures and reporting, organizations can better make use of their available resources. Finance, in being directly tied to a nonprofit's mission and governance structure, can be leveraged for better outcomes. #Nonprofit #Leadership #Justice
