Privacy or security issue? It’s both and very alarming. To protect our seniors, we need a multi pronged approach that includes privacy education, training, and awareness, as well as privacy by design, and of course enforceable privacy laws. In case of doubt, don’t click or answer… well, even if there is no doubt, anything that sounds urgent or too good to be true is worth stopping before reacting. Desecrating the Ten Commandments The book is called "the HOLY Bible" for a reason. Holy means sacred. What can be more sacred than commandments written on stone by God's own finger? But to justify passing a law to require the Commandments to be posted in every public school classroom, Louisiana lawmakers justified it, in part, due to their historic significance, not realizing that by downplaying the sacredness of the Commandments, they are actually "desecrating" them in the strictest sense of the term. Never mind the Supreme Court held in 1980 that such a requirement violates the First Amendment. Personally, I believe in the Ten Commandments. I live my life by them. My church takes them very seriously, even the Sabbath commandment which so many churches don't take as seriously. I like kids being taught the Ten Commandments. I think it is good for society for kids to know them, and to understand their significance and relevance. But I also think it is the job of parents, clergy, churches, etc., but not public school teachers. I'm okay with public school teachers teaching a religion curriculum that educates kids about religion. I think American kids should have a broad understanding of religion, and its role in the world. Religion is very significant in history, in society, in the affairs of nations. But in America, we have not entrusted our politicians with responsibility for promoting religion. Just think about it. Today, the Ten Commandments, but tomorrow???? a Muslim majority community could require teaching and posting about Sharia law. There's that old saying about the goose and the gander. You get the point. I hope. There's another whole discussion to be had, theologically, about the external law being against us, while what God promises to do is write His law in our hearts.

Does neutrality attract God’s promises and provisions in ANY area of my life? I recently noticed that the Bible lists many things God LOVES and many things God HATES, but nothing He is neutral about. ________________________________________ It made me wonder, “Does being neutral attract anything from God?" The only verse I could come up with that might be alluding to being neutral was, “Because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth" (Rev. 3:16). This last week at a conference one of the participants took me aside and asked if I could list for him the value of speaking in tongues, as he was neutral about whether he should press in to receive the gift of speaking in tongues. So off the top of my head, I recited the reasons tongues were valuable 1.   It is your spirit praying 2.   Your spirit is speaking directly to God, unhindered by your mind 3.   You are building yourself up 4.   1000 surveyed pastors in England who spoke in tongues were found to be more emotionally solid than those who did not speak in tongues 5.   Paul said, “earnestly pursue” spiritual gifts 6.   My teaching on tongues is here. https://lnkd.in/eAGTS9cK in tongues He was convinced and satisfied, and when I checked with him the following morning, sure enough, he had someone pray for him for the baptism in the Holy Spirit and he had received tongues! We must get beyond neutral to experience God's promises So YAY. Getting beyond neutral to a love and passion for the gifts and blessings of God is what opens us up to receive those blessings. I had already come to this conclusion when it came to certain of God’s promised provisions in my life, but I have never applied this truth to money. I know Jesus became poor so I could become rich (2 Cor. 8:9), and thus I had moved from the scorn of money to becoming “neutral” about money, and was just wondering if I needed to develop a positive passion for this promised gift. We always LOVE the GIVER of the gifts more than the gifts that He gives us, however He died on the Cross to give us 12 benefits, and I sure don't think Jesus was neutral when He died. He was passionate in His love for us, so I assume a passionate love back for each of these amazing gifts is the LEAST I can do. Maybe what “magnetizes” us so we attract things, is “strong emotions, love, conviction, passion.” Maybe once we have this emotional content intact within us, we draw things toward us. Maybe that is why God appears to have never recommended neutrality. Hmm. Journaling assignment 1.   Lord, do You want me to have a love for Your gift of financial abundance in my life? 2.   Lord, since emotions are byproducts of the pictures I gaze upon, what picture(s) do You want me to meditate upon that will inspire passionate emotion for this gift of wealth? 3.   Do You ever want me to be neutral?

A "Friendly" Church or a Church of Friends? Leading church consultants advocate that for churches to grow, being “friendly” is mandatory. Even beyond modern facilities, engaging programs, and deep community thumbprints, if a church is cold and unwelcoming, it will struggle to even maintain its membership, and growth is out of the picture. This profound discovery certainly doesn’t qualify as rocket science. Churches are in the “People Business,” and if churches aren’t good with people, their “business” will crater. But churches can distort the portrait of a “friendly” church. To be a “friendly” church, it requires more than being outgoing or bubbly. In fact, being friendly really isn’t that rare. You know who else is friendly? -        A Chick-Fil-A Worker -        A Salesman (When he thinks you’re going to buy…. anything) -        A Wal-Mart Greeter (Most of the time) -        A School Crossing Guard -        My Neighbor’s Dog Oh, they’re all very friendly—warm, gregarious, thoughtful—the whole nine yards, but unsurprisingly, I don’t have any plans to make Chick-Fil-A, a retail store, Wal-Mart, school zones, or my neighbor’s backyard, my spiritual community. I doubt that you do either. There must be more to a friendly church than smiley extroverts. I recently heard a very wise minister and a great friend offer this insightful wisdom— “PEOPLE AREN'T LOOKING FOR A FRIENDLY CHURCH. PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR A FRIEND." “Friendly” requires a smile or a handshake. “Friend” demands commitment and loyalty. “Friendly” can be taught. “Friend” can only be learned. And a friend is what people want. Even more so, a friend is what people need. We’ve likely attended or visited churches that diagnosed themselves as “friendly” when no one spoke to us. They may not have even noticed us. Before we lay down the judgment gauntlet, it’s healthy to confess that if we’ve been in a church or Bible class for decades, it’s easy to focus on our habitual spheres of influence. We can all improve in this area. But even if we speak to every person and shake every hand, that’s not enough. People don’t want a “friendly” church, they want a friend. They want someone who is willing to say with their words, and prove with their actions, “I care.”   “I’m here.”   “I’m not going anywhere.”   “And whatever challenges come, whatever baggage you bring, we will walk through the mess together, step by step.” Who can you be a friend to this Sunday? And next Sunday? And every Sunday? Churches that focus more on being friends than being friendly will grow faster than they can ever imagine. After all, it was once said of Jesus Christ, the head of the church, “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24, NIV).
