The GoldenSprint Challenge, sanctioned by the USA Track and Field Association (USATF), is the dream of Akwasi Frimpong, a Dutch-Ghanaian Olympian and Utah Valley University alumnus. He hopes to inspire more youth to participate in sports. To kick off this goal, he partnered with the Utah Olympic Oval to put together this meet in 2012, and it's organized annually. The name of the meet, "GoldenSprint," is one of Frimpong's nicknames that he earned when racing as an illegal African immigrant in the Netherlands. His Dutch coach gave him golden track shoes after his first Dutch National win. The fastest men's and women's sprinters at the GoldenSprint Challenge follow Frimpong's footsteps and take home a golden spikes trophy.

It also looks at the issue of improving the racial and ethnic diversity of IBSF athletes, coaches and officials.

The three key objective to strengthen and accelerate gender equality at the Olympic Games and across the Olympic Movement are:
    1. Consolidate the Olympic Games as one of the most effective global platforms for promoting and accelerating gender equality, in particular with regard to athletes participating, as well as the event schedule, including competition hours and medal events per day.
    2. Ensure gender-equal and fair portrayal in all Olympic-related communications to foster positive attitudes and to challenge harmful social norms, gender stereotypes and practices.
    3. Accelerate female representation in governance and leadership positions across the Olympic Movement, with the goal of reaching at least 30 per cent women’s representation in decision-making bodies in sports organisations.
