The 2024 Legislative Session clarified Minnesota’s cannabis licensing requirements and fast-tracked the timeline for qualified applicants. The new legislation details the application process, requirements, and permitted activities for cannabis businesses, enabling banks to make more informed decisions about their involvement in the industry. Our attorneys, Amber Kraemer and Gerry Fornwald shared insights with BankBeat on these new licensing developments and key considerations for banks that are starting to work with cannabis-related businesses. For more information, read this timely article. #CannabisLaw #MinnesotaLegislation #LegalInsights

At Winthrop, we’re focused on disrupting convention and paving our own path forward. Our professionals each bring a unique perspective and skillset to the practice of law. For Anthony (Tony) Todero, those unique skills include playing the snare drum with the Macalester College Pipe Band. Tony enjoys competition and has competed with the band (and several other organizations) numerous times. In August, he will be travelling with the group to Scotland where they’ll compete at both the European Pipe Band Championships and the World Pipe Band Championships. #TeamWinthrop wishes Tony and the Macalester College Pipe Band the best of luck at their upcoming competitions! It isn’t often that a state recognizes a new cause of action, but that is just what the Minnesota Supreme Court has done. Following its decision in Alonzo v. Menholt, Minnesota now recognizes the tort of “negligent selection of an independent contractor,” which may have a significant impact (and potential for liability) on all Minnesota businesses. Read more from Kyle R. Kroll, Thomas H. Boyd, and Steven Vogel about the decision and its potential implications here: https://lnkd.in/gF32Be5p
