At Winrock International, we're dedicated to preserving and restoring mangroves, vital ecosystems that protect our coastlines, support biodiversity, and combat climate change. Mangroves are more than just trees; they are climate heroes! They sequester carbon, protect against storm surges, and increase the ability of coastal communities to adapt to a changing climate. On UNESCO’s International Day for the Protection of the Mangrove Ecosystem, we wanted to share a few examples of Winrock’s impactful mangrove protection and preservation work with local partners and organizations around the world: USAID Feed the Future Senegal Dekkal Geej: https://lnkd.in/gfX6S3EW Everglades Carbon Assessment project: https://lnkd.in/eg49hFxm #WorldMangroveDay #MangroveConservation #ClimateAction #WinrockInternational #SustainableDevelopment #Mangroves #ClimateSolutions

Human trafficking and modern-day slavery are global issues affecting countless lives, with very few countries remaining untouched. Every year on July 30th, the United Nations observes World Day Against Trafficking in Persons to raise awareness and strengthen efforts to prevent these heinous crimes. The USAID Asia CTIP (Counter Trafficking in Persons) project, implemented by Winrock International, is a regional initiative dedicated to tackling transnational and regional challenges in the fight against human trafficking. This program strives to reduce human trafficking in Asia by fostering coordinated and consolidated actions among governments, civil society, and businesses. On June 28 in Ho Chi Minh City, Consul General Susan Burns and USAID's former Acting Mission Director Bradley Bessire unveiled a photo exhibition featuring an image from the Winrock- implemented USAID Reducing Pollution project at the U.S. Consulate General building. The exhibition, running until mid-December 2024, features 10 images promoting plastic pollution reduction and highlighting the five R's: Reduce, Refuse, Reuse, Redesign, and Recycle. The exhibition includes a photo of a woman waste collector supported by USAID and VECA and two other photos highlighting initiatives on medical waste plastic and Extended Producer Responsibility implementation. The USAID Reducing Pollution team is working on a five-year project to support locally -driven initiatives that substantially reduce environmental pollution in Vietnam through a collective impact approach. https://lnkd.in/eVU7gvvP #ReducingPollution #Localization #Sustainaility #Environment #EnvironmentalProtection #USAID #Vietnam

Our year 3 work plan brainstorming for #thaiRAIN is done. We have laid out a framework and set future milestones to promote the market for climate-smart innovations for Thai farmers from now until 2025. Our objectives are to increase yields, save costs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from important economic crops in Thailand from rice to cassava and fruits and raise awareness in nearby countries. 🐛 🦋 👩🌾 We will do this by working with the public and private sectors and academic organizations to change the farmers’ practices to be more sustainable and adaptive to climate change. USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) generously supports #thaiRAIN, which is implemented by Winrock International. Over the next few years, we will also work to develop the USDA's first international climate hub as a center of excellence in Southeast Asia's agrifood system. 🔍 Join Our Webinar: Reimagining Private Sector Engagement in CTIP: What is Meaningful Impact? Currently, our approach to Private Sector Engagement (PSE) in the Counter Trafficking in Persons (CTIP) sector relies heavily on performance indicators mandated by international donors, such as the number of partnerships formed with companies and actions taken against trafficking. However, we lack comprehensive metrics to gauge tangible improvements in worker conditions, such as fair pay and decent labor standards. Moreover, our current strategy often overlooks the potential role of workers themselves in fostering sustainable change, such as in supply chain grievance mechanisms or risk assessments. While existing performance indicators provide a starting point, they fail to incentivize innovative approaches that could significantly enhance working conditions and worker well-being. Join us in our upcoming webinar to explore: -Innovative metrics for tangible improvements in worker conditions -The crucial role of workers in fostering sustainable change -New strategies for supply chain grievance mechanisms and risk assessments 📅 Date: 31 July 2024 🕒 Time: 3-5 pm (Bangkok time) 🔗 Register Now: https://lnkd.in/gDwXJddA Winrock International USAID #Webinar #CTIP #HumanTrafficking #PrivateSectorEngagement #CSR #FairLabor #WorkerRights https://lnkd.in/gDwXJddA
