As I arrive at the halfway mark of my internship at WEWS-TV, I want to reflect on the time I've spent here so far! Being able to be hands-on in a city that I love has opened my eyes and allowed me to see parts of my hometown I've never set foot in. I've written five stories so far, three of which have made it on air. I've also been able to pitch daily during editorial meetings, allowing my stories to be picked up by producers and reporters. I was also able to witness the station win 16 Emmys (!), including Overall Excellence in the market. As someone who loves to dig into the community and find solutions to its unique issues, I deeply admire witnessing a station truly care about its community and actively finding ways to make it better. As I set a path toward becoming an MMJ, I'm confident in the skills and experiences I've gained here so far. Being able to go out in my community and tell the stories I want to have paved the way for me to excel in the future. I want to personally thank Janelle Bass Hawthorne, MBA for being a guiding light throughout my process. I also want to thank Catherine Ross, Damon Maloney, Clay LePard, and Maya Lockett for allowing me to learn hands-on and being amazing role models of journalists who hustle for their community. I'd also like to share a story I pitched and completely controlled the entire newsgathering process on. It was such an interesting story to work on amidst the rapid advancements of AI in our society.
