The conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo may have disappeared from the headlines. Yet, in recent weeks, the east has seen unprecedented fighting and movement of people. Towns like Kanyabayonga, on the northern front of the conflict, are bearing the brunt, with children and families driven from their homes under heavy fire. Thousands of people are on the move towards the big cities - and War Child and other humanitarian organisations are struggling to reach them due to access and security reasons. This is a message from our team on the ground. We must keep this #ForgottenConflict front of mind 💡

This image is a reminder to us all that education – and children – must be protected from the destruction of war. In the Superheroes School, located within Okhmatdyt Hospital, children going through treatment used to learn through our Can’t Wait to Learn programme. This same hospital was directly hit during the Russian strikes on #Ukraine yesterday, and a Superheroes School classroom was destroyed. We send our love to the children and families affected. It is devastating to see the aftermath of Russian strikes across Ukraine that also struck the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital in Kyiv this morning. Hospitals and civilians are protected under International Humanitarian Law - they are #NotATarget. "The attacks have killed civilians and caused indiscriminate destruction to critical infrastructure", says Yana Zhambekova, our Country Director in Ukraine. "We grieve with the families of the people killed and injured today. Even war has rules - yet children continue to suffer needlessly in this war. This must stop.”

For children in #Gaza, education is a symbol of hope. That's what drives our team, alongside our partner Save Youth Future Society who continue their work supporting thousands of children despite acute challenges. Children participate in our group learning sessions and recreational activities to support their wellbeing. We also stand ready to support UNRWA in restoring the education system in Gaza as soon as possible.
