Harnessing biotechnology to revolutionize separation science

About us

Vandstrom was founded to revolutionize the membrane industry by using channel proteins to deliver new membrane solutions. We are developing technology that will permit separation based on selectivity rather than size exclusion, and deliver an order-of-magnitude improvement in the energy efficiency of membrane technology.

Vandstrom hosted our second annual "Bring Your Family/Partner to Work Day" event, and what a fantastic turnout we had! Over 40 people, including our employees, their spouses, and children, joined us for a day of fun and learning. The kids enjoyed engaging in science and engineering experiments, making it hard for them to say goodbye when the day ended. For the adults, we hosted an insightful panel discussion on water awareness, where we delved into the water crisis and sustainability. As part of our commitment to water stewardship, we aim to plant the seed of water awareness, encouraging many to nurture it through their daily choices, and ultimately seeing the positive impact on our world. The talk was eye-opening for attendees, and we received heartfelt appreciation for shedding light on this crucial topic. As we continue to promote water awareness and sustainability, we encourage you to join us on this journey.

The Global Water Summit, held last week, was themed “Security for a Changing Planet.” Global Water Intelligence (GWI) gathered a thousand of the world’s leading innovators and thought leaders in London for three days of discussions about the challenges the world faces as the water cycle becomes increasingly volatile. That volatility was brought into sharp focus by what happened in Dubai last week. Vandstrom was represented by our VP of R&D, Oliver Geschke, our CEO, Imran Jaferey, and our Executive Chairman, Mads Clausen. Their key takeaways from the event are: AN UNDERVALUED RESOURCE. Those of us involved in the industry need to improve public engagement with the water sector so people understand the value of the water that flows from their taps and appreciate the challenges of treating the effluent that flows away. It is only through effective public engagement that we can ensure that governments treat water as a priority. DEMOCRATIZATION OF DATA. People need real-time access to data about water quality and availability. For the public, this is to build trust. For the operators, it is to ensure they are able to run their processes efficieltly and effectively. PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SECTOR COLLABORATION.  Private sector engagement is critical in addressing the challenges of the water cycle. The participation of many water and sustainability leaders from diverse industries at the Summit highlighted the role industry plays in the water cycle. PASSION FOR TECHNOLOGY. There were some amazing technologies presented in the Water Technology Idol, 12 Technologies for Industrial Efficiency, and 30 Technologies for Emerging Contaminants sessions. There are brilliant scientists and engineers focused on providing robust solutions for water challenges. From treatment technologies to monitoring and performance analytics, there was a wide gamut of solutions presented and reviewed. We remain optimistic about the sector’s ability to overcome the challenges we face. We are committed to delivering technical solutions that make water treatment more efficient and resilient. Thank you to Christopher Gasson and the entire GWI team for organizing this event. We look forward to next year's event.
