💧 At #GWS24, José Enrique Bofill, Aqualia's Head of the MENA-Asia Region, highlighted a pressing issue: the stark contrast in how we perceive water compared to other #utilities. Unlike electricity and phone bills, #waterrates often stir controversy. With escalating droughts, José stressed the urgency of integrating water scarcity into public consciousness. This was echoed in the summit's Financing Water Security session, emphasising the importance of aligning finance with #watersecurity strategies. But it's not just about infrastructure. José emphasised the importance of reshaping mindsets and recognising water's vital role in our lives. Bridging the gap between perception and reality is paramount, urging stakeholders to embrace the true value of water. Achieving water security requires a mindset shift. What are you doing to get there? 🤝

💡 Imagine slashing emissions by 30% with just a modest increase in costs! IDE Technologies managed this at its next-gen #desalination plant, Sorek II. At #GWS24, Alon Tavor, CEO of IDE Technologies, challenges us to go beyond rhetoric and take tangible action in #environmental sustainability. By integrating #sustainability metrics into our KPIs, as discussed in Tavor's insightful roundtable on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), we can drive real change🌱 IDE Technologies proves that going green doesn't have to break the bank, showing that significant reductions in #carbonemissions can be achieved affordably. Thanks to Antoine Walter for facilitating this conversation. What are your thoughts on integrating sustainability into industry standards? Join the discussion below! 👇

🤔 Why are we cheating ourselves by claiming we want to build a BETTER #Water Infrastructure? Here's a stupid analogy: when asked which TV channel is their favorite, French people answer "Arte" at 16%... but then only 2.9% really watch it! ↪ There's a strong discrepancy between what we SAY and what we DO In the #WaterSector we say we want: 🫰 The lowest lifetime value for our plants and hence ⚡ The best energy performance while also targeting 🌱 An optimized #CarbonImpact Yet, when it comes to walking the talk, we pick... 💰 The lowest CAPEX price! 🙋♂️ Why so? Well, not because we're damn liars, but simply because... that's how we design our tenders. ➡ A (public) tender is a simple game; it sets rules, and if you're the best according to those rules, you win. So if the rules say, "CAPEX counts for 50% of the grade," and you add a typical 20% on references and 20% on structural parameters of the bidder, that leaves you only 10% (in the best scenario) for REAL qualitative figures. So you'll say you want to be green, future-proofed, sustainable, and whatever buzzwords sound good in a PR, but... you'll pick what's the best for this year's budget (and who knows what happens in the future, right?) 🧑⚖️ Bottom line: it's about time we stop borrowing from the future and start putting our act together. ⬇ Alon Tavor said all of that (and more) much better than me at this year's Global Water Summit. ... and IDE Technologies is actually walking the talk in their upcoming Sorek II #desalination plant, by designing a 30% carbon reduction. 🤔 Does it help that the project is executed in a BOT, and hence, the costs are measured over 25 Years, which would be a good proxy of a TOTEX figure?
