How do you move a 108,000-pound MRI magnet to its new home at a particle physics research lab? The answer: Very carefully. The transfer of one of our MRI magnets to Fermilab was years in the making — involving removing an exterior wall in our Outpatient Care Center, cutting holes in the MRI machine's 4-inch thick steel walls, and carefully securing it for its 3-hour drive to the western suburbs. Check out our time lapse photography from the days-long moving process.

In Chicago, Black women are six times more likely to die from pregnancy than white women. Melanated Group Midwifery Care is a University of Illinois Chicago research study that emphasizes care from a team of Black midwives, nurses, and doulas to improve pregnancy outcomes for Black women. ABC 7 Chicago recently visited UI Health to see how the $10 million study is helping to improve Black maternal mortality. Watch the segment below, and learn more about MGMC at https://mgmc.uic.edu.

It was distinct pleasure to be in Geneva as the 2024 Guest of Honor of the Department of Clinical Neurosciences. The days were busy with lectures, demonstrating surgical approaches in the state of the art lab, participating in the residents oral examinations and research presentations...as well as many super convivial events. Phenomenal Neurosurgical service under the inspiring leadership of Professor Karl Schaller who has assembled an amazing team of colleagues: Philippe Bijlenga, Julien Hammerli, etc. and multidisciplinary researchers.

Dr. Karen Jong and Raymond McPherson — an endocrinology fellow and a program support specialist at UI Health — participated in today's IMD Pride “Out in the Office” panel discussion with our partners from across the Illinois Medical District Commission. Engaging conversations like these are a key part of our ongoing work to foster advocacy and inclusivity for LGBTQ+ professionals at UI Health and in the IMD.
