How do you move a 108,000-pound MRI magnet to its new home at a particle physics research lab? The answer: Very carefully. The transfer of one of our MRI magnets to Fermilab was years in the making — involving removing an exterior wall in our Outpatient Care Center, cutting holes in the MRI machine's 4-inch thick steel walls, and carefully securing it for its 3-hour drive to the western suburbs. Check out our time lapse photography from the days-long moving process.
