How do you move a 108,000-pound MRI magnet to its new home at a particle physics research lab? The answer: Very carefully. The transfer of one of our MRI magnets to Fermilab was years in the making — involving removing an exterior wall in our Outpatient Care Center, cutting holes in the MRI machine's 4-inch thick steel walls, and carefully securing it for its 3-hour drive to the western suburbs. In Chicago, Black women are six times more likely to die from pregnancy than white women. Melanated Group Midwifery Care is a University of Illinois Chicago research study that emphasizes care from a team of Black midwives, nurses, and doulas to improve pregnancy outcomes for Black women.
