At this year’s Team Conference for #Hospice and #Palliative Care hosted by Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association on September 28 in Baltimore, Transforming Chaplaincy is skipping to the stage to announce that Dr. Christina Puchalski and Rev. Richard W. Bauer, MM, BCC, MSW he/him (él) will be presenting: Interprofessional Spiritual Care Education Curriculum (ISPEC) Offered since 2018 with GWish, ISPEC is an evidence-informed curriculum. It trains interprofessional health teams to recognize and attend to patient #spiritual needs. Addressing spiritual and #religious issues is essential to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and fundamental to respectful care. Based on the generalist-specialist spiritual care model, clinician-chaplain pairs attend ISPEC to learn content, teaching, and leadership skills. Their session will teach key concepts from the six-module ISPEC curriculum, particularly focusing on spiritual distress, spiritual assessment, and clinician well-being. Congrats indeed, Geila Rajaee! Transforming Chaplaincy is proud to note that you were a #research fellow as well as a research convener with Transforming #Chaplaincy. Keep advancing #spiritual care through research ⏩ .
Editor’s Favorite of 2023 If you haven’t read the article by Geila Rajaee & team, you’re missing out! While we know much of the desire for #spiritual care within inpatient settings goes unmet, Dr. Rajaee and colleagues demonstrated how that demand differs between points of #healthcare delivery. “Predictors of interest in #chaplain consult by outpatient and inpatient setting” employed a robust sampling strategy as well as advanced quantitative analytical tools. #Chaplains are seen as those who help people · Connect to resources that aid in building reliance · Explore values to navigate treatment decisions · Identify priorities & values in times of crisis · Connect & reflect on their sense of meaning / purpose · Find resources for spiritual coping · Navigate conflict Previous experience with healthcare chaplain had overwhelmingly positive association with a person’s desire to receive a chaplain consult. Even in the outpatient setting!! https://lnkd.in/gEjRhQnA Keep reading #research! Kelsey White, PhD, BCC

Congrats to this #research team with this mapping project. And stay tuned for more #spiritual care mapping projects connected with Transforming Chaplaincy.
Thank you Kristen Schenk, BCC, Tyler Whipkey, MDiv, MBA, BCC, and George Fitchett, DMin, PhD, senior advisor for Transforming Chaplaincy, for your open access publication in the Journal of Health Care Chaplaincy, Mapping spiritual care in small and critical access hospitals in a faith-based US health system. From the abstract: “A central finding was the variation in spiritual care services provided in these diverse facilities. Of the 16 hospitals in the sample, 11 of them (69%) offered #spiritual care from professional chaplains at least three days per week. Support for staff was an important priority in all the facilities. Needs identified include virtual training and support for the spiritual care providers in these settings.” #chaplain https://lnkd.in/gXBukDSC
