The Wauwatosa East High School Art Department is excited to share that student Isabelle Erickson has been recognized as a Scholastic Art Awards National Silver Medalist! She was awarded for her piece, "Dear Isabelle." Her hand-made mixed-media book beautifully captures the stories and memories of her great-grandmother's incredible life. Out of more than 340,000 submissions this year, fewer than 2,500 received a national medal, placing Isabelle in the top 8% of all submissions. She now joins the ranks of renowned writers and artists like Stephen King and Andy Warhol, who also received this prestigious recognition as teens. Congratulations, Isabelle! 🌟🎨

About us
Wauwatosa School District is a high-achieving, forward-thinking, and richly diverse public school district serving about 7,200 students and families. Our educational community’s long history of excellence has been recognized both regionally and nationally. In 2017, the Washington Post named both of our high schools on its “America’s Most Challenging High Schools” list. The U.S. News and World Report has repeatedly recognized Wauwatosa East High School as one of the Top 25 High Schools in the state and our District has routinely “Exceeded Expectations” on state Report Cards issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Our District consists of 16 schools: 11 elementary, two middle schools, two high schools and the Wauwatosa Virtual Academy. Among our schools are Wauwatosa Montessori and Wauwatosa STEM. We also offer a full STEM program at Underwood Elementary and at both of our middle schools. All of our schools offer robust parent choices when selecting educational opportunities for your child. Additionally, our District provides the education for several county programs including Children’s Wisconsin and Vel R. Phillips School. We believe relationships are at the core of the success of our students, teachers, and administrators. To achieve that success, our decisions are guided by our strategic plan which focuses on: Academic Performance Diversity, Equity, Inclusion + Accessibility Social, Emotional + Mental Health High-Quality Staff Culture + Community Operations Wauwatosa School District is a connected, inclusive community of learners. We serve as active advocates to provide equitable access to excellent academic, co-curricular, and social-emotional learning opportunities that empower every student to thrive as passionate, productive, and creative citizens. The Wauwatosa West High School Art Department is thrilled to announce that Lauren Laserstein has been awarded two National Silver Medals in the Scholastic Art Awards! Lauren has been honored for her sculptures, “Dude, I’m Drained,” and “Bottled Up” (pictured). Recently, Lauren Laserstein and her mother, Tosa West teacher Nancy Laserstein, had the honor of visiting Congresswoman Gwen Moore and attending the ceremony for the 2024 Congressional Art Competition winners. With less than 1% of all submissions receiving national recognition, this is an extraordinary achievement. Lauren had an incredible senior year, capped off with a full tuition offer to the prestigious Maryland Institute College of Art. Congratulations, Lauren! 🌟🎨
