We had such a great time celebrating boots-on-the-ground conservationists at the Conservation Achievement Awards last week! Conserving Tennessee’s abundant and diverse natural resources would not be possible without dedicated individuals and organizations working together. Last Friday, we were thrilled to celebrate Dr. Ryan Jackwood, honored as the Tennessee Wildlife Federation’s 2024 Water Conservationist of the Year! As the Director of Watershed Science & Restoration, Dr. Jackwood provides strategic direction for our science-based programs and implements restoration priorities based on water quality assessment. One notable project is TN Water Watch, launching in early June! Congratulations, Dr. Jackwood, on this well-deserved recognition!

Wetlands are a crucial habitat type in Tennessee and across the country. This article, written by former U.S. Senator Bill Frist, does a great job detailing the importance of wetlands and why states need to protect these imperiled habitats. Check it out >> https://lnkd.in/eenGJqnB

The Tennessee Outdoor Partnership (TOP) is a public/private collaborative dedicated to growing our economy and improving quality of life through conservation and access to Tennessee’s great outdoors. The TOP advisory group met recently at Henry Horton State Park where we discussed major conservation and outdoor recreation goals for the State of Tennessee. We also exposed these leaders to some cross sections of outdoor activities. High on the TOP agenda is driving the Governor’s Tennessee Blueways initiative – which involves high quality water trails across the state -- helping to ensure that TN has the cleanest and most accessible system of recreation waterways in the nation! We showcased the Duck River – North America’s most biodiverse river, right here in TN! Conservation of and access to our outdoor spaces for Tennesseans and our grandchildren is a most worthy investment. #TNoutdoors #GetOutsideTN #OutdoorRecreation #Conservation Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency Tennessee Department of Agriculture Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Tennessee Department of Tourist Development UT Institute of Agriculture The Nature Conservancy in Tennessee Tennessee Wildlife Federation Brian Clifford Alex Wyss Mark Ezell Michael Butler Anne Marshall Brooxie Carlton Laurel Creech Peter Roth Stokes Ashley Mary Evans Preston Elliott Greer Tidwell, Jr. Nora Johnson Christina Treglia Jamison Sliger Michael Hendrix Dennis Tumlin, TCEcD Jim Bryson

I am incredibly humbled and honored to receive the Water Conservationist of the Year Award from the Tennessee Wildlife Federation earlier today. I am so thankful to the Harpeth Conservancy and Lipscomb University for giving me the opportunity to study and teach about rivers and water management in Tennessee!

Recently, an article was published in a scientific journal indicating humans had been infected with chronic wasting disease (CWD). Decades of scientific research has found no evidence that humans can contract CWD. The article was a summary of a poster presentation, which was a summary of a case history—not a scientific research study. Read more at the link below ⤵⤵ https://lnkd.in/gtHEKK-Z
