RETAIL NEWS! You can find IGL Nails at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s! 4 years ago a pandemic hobby turned into a life changing business venture. From teaching myself how to do acrylics, transitioning to custom press-on nails to taking a year off to have my baby and now being a black woman owned • manufactured • nail-bed size inclusive • press-on nail brand. This has been one hell of a roller coaster. Of course I have a ton of people to say thank you to. ✨ Melissa R. Hibbért for believing in IGL Nails and putting me on her amazing roster of beauty founders, pitching IGL Nails to TJ Maxx and getting me the meeting back in October! ✨ My mom, my in laws, my amazing friend Shawna M. Charles, MBA, Ph.D. founder of Charles Comm Group that helped me fund this PO. ✨ My husband and sisters for helping me manage the largest inventory I’ve received to date and adjusting their schedules to care for my newborn daughter while I had all the meetings over the past few months, and or catching up on sleep needed to make this happen. ✨ And the amazing buyer at TJ Maxx for seeing me, believing in my product and allowing IGL Nails customers to have more access to shop a black owned brand that is here to fill a gap in the nail industry, and ensuring women with all nail-bed sizes feel confident without having to break the bank. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now YOU can help me by sharing this post and spreading the word! There’s 4 styles available in limited quantities. Let’s sell out #IGLNailsatTJMaxx and show them that this brand is NEEDED in more stores! This is only the beginning… #iglnails #neverhavefuglynails #ombw #targetforwardfounders

  • Thank you Beauty Independent & Rachel Brown for assisting us in welcoming Melissa R. Hibbért as the president of #BrainTrustFoundersStudio! “For me, this role is not just about the title. It really is about the work that we are going to be able to do. There isn’t a lot of organizations that are in the trenches the way we are with early-stage founders,” says Hibbert. “An important goal is the amplification of these founders and getting more visibility for them, not just with the consumers, but with people investing in particular brands or categories.” You can read the full article on #BeautyIndependent. Let's extend a warm welcome to Melissa as she joins the BrainTrust Founders Studio family. 👏🏾

What is the one thing we can do to change the fact that women control/influence 88.5% of spending and men control 98.7% of investing? I asked Stacey Abrams: “If you see a business and you think it’s a good idea, invest in that business. You may not be able to write a check with a bunch of zeros but if you can add a zero, see if you can put money in.“ said Stacey Abrams Tuesday at Books & Brunch celebration hosted by Stacy Berns and Berns Communications Group alongside authors Kendra Bracken-Ferguson, Rebecca Minkoff, and Roya Shariat , moderated by Daniela Pierre-Bravo. Stacey’s call to action is embodied by our investor community supporting BrainTrust Fund I. Our fund’s LPs are 77% women, 76% Black, Brown, AAPI and 100% allies who share our belief in the financial opportunity created by Black founders of beauty and wellness products and services. These LPs stepped in to lead when we kicked off this fund in Q4 2022 and we are honored to collaborate with you! In the last 12 months, as the U.S. beauty and wellness industry grew again — venture funding to Black founders declined again to <0.5%. At the same time, our exclusive pipeline, BrainTrust Founders Studio, expanded to 209 members—91% Black women—and collectively our founders drove $142.6 million in sales across 47,000+ retail doors. To learn more of these founders personal and professional journeys, I strongly recommend the new book by Kendra Bracken-Ferguson , our Fund’s co-General Partner and originator, Founder and CEO of BrainTrust Founders Studio. For more data, see the 2024 Economic Advancement Report. Link above.
