equipping and empowering children to reach their full potential by building resiliency and giving hope
About us
Scott Lewis, Executive Director and Lisa Wallace, Co-Director & Marketing were seeing stories on the news of children growing up in meth houses, children thrust in to kinship foster care because of the opioid epidemic. They were seeing children hurting and lost in some of life's darkest moments that adults would find it difficult to navigate. So they decided to do something about it. They launched The Brightside Project, a 501c3 non-profit organization in 2016 in an attempt to reach out to these children who were experiencing trauma. They knew that the more adverse childhood experiences that a child has, the more likely they are to engage in risky behavior and suffer long-term health effects. They are more likely to suffer from depression, heart disease and even death by suicide. In a society where mass shootings are on the rise, human trafficking is rampant and there seems to be so much hate inundating our world, children need to know they are loved and valued and that there is a brightside. When keeping in mind a child's comprehensive well-being, The Brightside Project;s mission is to equip & empower children to reach their full potential by building resiliency and giving hope. They accomplish their goals by a variety of events that are all directed at empowering children and showing them the brightside. Their current programs for 2020 include; Bright Easter, Bright Christmas, Food Give Aways for Kids, Back to School and a variety of community involvement events.

😍 🙌 30 volunteers over 2 days at an off-site location = 700 backpacks filled with supplies & 200 family hygiene bags packed for our Backpacks for Kids give aways in August! THANK YOU to the employees of Cardinal Health and CareSource for volunteering to help us this year! 🌞 And to our regular Brightside volunteers: Jim, Tom, Melinda, Christine & Terri! ❤️ 🎒 ✏ We will be distributing backpacks filled with supplies to PreK-12th grade students in Columbiana & rural Mahoning County on Thursday August 1st and Thursday August 15th from 3-7pm (event details in comments) 🌞Children must be present. 🌞New families should bring proof of residency, especially if located in rural Mahoning County. 🌞Anticipate long lines, dress for the weather and bring snacks & beverages if you're planning to arrive before 3pm. Portable restrooms will be available in the municipal parking lot across from our building. 🌞Each child will be able to choose a backpack and receive a bag of food + each family will receive a family hygiene bag (while supplies last). 🌞Children can attend both days but will only receive 1 backpack and will receive a bag of food their second visit. #bethebrightside 🌞 💙 🧡

🔥We had some of our best community champions speak of the need for and benefits that a Youth Center would bring to our community at our Ignite the Spark Capital Campaign event on April 19. 🥰🥰🥰 🙏❤️Thank you to Brad Stephens (Salem Ohio Public Library), Amy Bordonaro (First Christian Church - Salem & Ohio4Freedom) and Julie Needs (Sustainable Opportunity Development Center, inc.) This God-size vision is the BIGGEST& BOLDEST thing we have ever done but we trust Him and we believe that this community will come together to make this a reality for our children. If you would like to contribute to helping us purchase the former Donnell Ford building & property, you can reach out to us at 234-320-4005, email scott@brightsideprojectohio.org or visit https://lnkd.in/gP5xb3U. #bethebrightside 🌞💙🧡 https://lnkd.in/gbdkAQVv
