Wishing Everyone a Peaceful and Reflective Hijri New Year! #HijriNewYear #Muharram As we enter the new year on the Islamic calendar, let's take this time for introspection and gratitude. Gardening Insights for DEIA While working in my garden and pulling out weeds, I realized how gardening can relate to our work in DEIA. Just like a diverse garden thrives with various plants, our organizations flourish with diverse perspectives. Weeds, which can overtake desired plants, remind me of unconscious biases that can hinder diversity. Unconscious bias training teaches us to recognize these ‘weeds,’ but true change requires action beyond awareness. Surface-level diversity initiatives are like quick weed pulls—they don’t last. We need to address biases at their root to create a sustainable, inclusive environment. Let’s cultivate our workplaces to be as vibrant and diverse as our ideal gardens! #DEIA #Diversity #Inclusion #Leadership

A Message of Shared Humanity: Celebrating the Dalai Lama's Teachings #DalaiLama #Compassion Today, as we reflect on the profound teachings of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, let's remember his powerful message: "From the moment of birth every human being wants happiness and freedom and wants to avoid suffering. In this we are all the same; and the more we care for the happiness of others the greater our own sense of each other becomes." This core truth, shared in The Compassionate Life (2001), Ch. 3 "Global Compassion," reminds us of our interconnectedness and the power of empathy. May his wisdom inspire us to cultivate compassion and build a more peaceful world. #SharedHumanity #GlobalCompassion #InterfaithDialogue #Kindness

Sigh…another case alleging reverse discrimination. These lawsuits are becoming increasingly common as activist groups are targeting and recruiting disgruntled former employees to sue. The problem is, their recollection of the issues that led to the termination do not support their claims. For example, the person who replaced the former anchor had been working in television since 2007. There IS a generational disconnect in TV and marketing. For example, the Keith Lee and Taraji P. Henson debacle at the BET awards. The next generation has its own version of relevant stories, terminology, influencers, etc. If you are not staying abreast of these shifts, you’re not relevant in THEIR eyes. Look at Netflix. Diverse content and representation have been the keys to their dominance. Amazon Prime has been surging due to its variety and Diversity as well. Additionally, TV competes with instant, user created news from TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and X. CBS probably could have done a better job of documenting the issues but it certainly doesn’t sound like a strong case for racial discrimination. Simply saying that people of color were hired or promoted does not equate to reverse discrimination, especially if Whites were also hired and promoted during that same timeframe. Again in the TV industry, there’s many factors to consider such as the market’s demographics and preferences.

Celebrate Freedom by Championing Equality #IndependenceDay #Diversity #Inclusion This Independence Day, as we celebrate the birth of the United States and the ideals of liberty and justice for all, we know that the pursuit of equality is an ongoing journey. The Declaration of Independence famously declared that "all men (PEOPLE) are created equal," yet the reality for many groups throughout American history has been far from equal. The fight for inclusion and equal rights has been a constant undercurrent, a testament to the enduring spirit of those who believe in the promise of America. Reflect, Recognize, Renew As we raise our flags and watch fireworks with loved ones, let's also use this as an opportunity to: ❤️ Reflect on the ongoing fight for equal rights. Consider the experiences of those from different backgrounds who may not have enjoyed the same privileges as you. 💙 Recognize the progress made thanks to the tireless efforts of so many. Let's celebrate the achievements of Civil Rights leaders and workplace visionaries who paved the way thus far. 🧡 Renew our commitment. The ideals of Independence Day serve as a powerful motivator to keep working towards a future where everyone feels enabled to pursue happiness and freedom. The IDC® remains dedicated to empowering organizations to create diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible workplaces. Join us in making the promise of equality a reality for all. #DEIA #DEI #DiversityAndInclusion #InclusionChampions #TogetherWeRise

I can remember countless times debating how to wear my hair in a corporate setting. It was such a testing process, and here we are years later with a signed Act of legislation! 🙏🏽 Now, I embrace my full curly big hair 🥰 National CROWN Day celebrates the initial signing of the CROWN Act legislation in California on July 3, 2019, aimed at "Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair."
