There’s a new community fridge in town! Share staff celebrated our new community fridge, freezer and pantry today by stocking it chock full of fresh produce and quality snacks. Come check us out at 2901 W Hunting Park Ave 📍 The fridge is open and accessible 24/7 for anyone to take what they need or leave what they can 💚 The Share Community Fridge is one part of a larger community-centered network of volunteers and mutual aid organizers in Philly and beyond who believe in food justice, collective liberation, and solidarity with our neighbors. Introducing Nice Roots Farm’s first Summer Youth Land Stewards: Isabella, Tamia, Johneya & Aniyah 🌱🪻🙌🏾 They will be joining us on the farm for 10 weeks this summer, gaining agricultural, culinary, nutrition & food justice knowledge as we work through our Nice Roots Farm curriculum with them! We’re so excited to be able to offer this paid internship program for the first time to students who attend high school nearby 💚

Giving a shoutout to New Hope AME Zion Church, one of our beloved Partner Pantries in our fight against hunger 💚 They are located on Musgrave St and their pantry is open every first & third Saturday of each month. Fun fact — they graduated from the Seed to Supper program hosted at Share's Nice Roots Farm, utilizing the tools and knowledge they learned during the program and applying it to their food security! 🌱

We are wishing Sheila Christopher, Executive Director of Hunger-Free PA, a big congrats on retirement 🎉🙌 Sheila has been relentlessly fighting food insecurity on behalf of Pennsylvanians for almost 40 years! She has made such an enormous impact through her work including: 🍏 Expanding the Senior Box Program to all 67 Pennsylvania counties, which now serves over 32,000 seniors each month 🍏 Lead the effort to pass the Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus System Act, which facilitates PA-grown fresh food getting into the hands of those who need it. 🍏 Founded the Pennsylvania Hunger Action Coalition, a group of over 70 regional and state-wide organizations. Share deeply appreciates Sheila’s efforts, we will miss her very much, and wish her all the best in her retirement!

Our massive home delivery program was recently featured on WHYY's "You Oughta Know." thanks to host / producer Shirley Min and her crew for hanging out with us, raising awareness about food insecurity, and telling the story of how, together, we’re working around the clock to fight hunger in the Philly region. Food pantries across Montgomery County are facing a “crisis point” of increased hunger. “I think many people would recognize that there are pockets of really severe poverty within Montgomery County, so that those people are quick to highlight those,” said Mindy Bartscherer of the Montco Anti-Hunger Network. “But it’s everywhere, and even in the wealthiest parts of the county there are many people who are facing food insecurity.” “That’s part of the reason that we’ve been spurred to take action here,” Montgomery County Commissioner Neil Makhija said. In March, Montco commissioners created a Food Policy Council to look at food waste, food insecurity and what the county can do better for its residents. The county has also invested $4 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to build a warehouse with Montco’s Share Food Program to be able to collect and hold more food for distribution. That plan is in progress. Share Food Program Montgomery County Pantry Partners are hard at work trying to get food to those who need it most while providing a safe and welcoming space. Through our new dedicated Mont Co warehouse, we will be able to supply our partners with even more.
