Supporting Families During Their Children's Critical Early Years

About us

For more than 25 years, Room to Grow has promoted equity and opportunity by providing families with personalized guidance, community connections, and essential material resources from the third trimester of pregnancy to their children’s third birthday. We meet families where they are, supporting their caretaking journeys during their children’s most critical years of growth. Our nonprofit’s evidence-informed approach helps families expand their knowledge, skills, and confidence so their children can thrive from the start. Over the course of our three-year program, we partner with families and connect them with dedicated program team members to support their well-being and enhance their strengths and knowledge; community resources to bolster their growth; and essential, high-quality baby and toddler items. Between in-person visits, we celebrate childhood milestones, build on progress, and address questions or concerns. Room to Grow currently partners with families in New York, Boston, and Chicago. Last year, we partnered with 1,000 families across New York and Boston, offering over 160,000 free items that families need to provide for their little ones. 👏 We depend on donations from the community and our corporate partners for 100% of these baby and toddler items. And we need your help to fill our shelves for the summer! If you’re ready to make a difference, here are 4 easy ways you can help: 1️⃣ **Order Donate-by-Mail Bags:** Can't make it to our Family Centers in person? No problem! You can still contribute by ordering a Donate-by-Mail bag. Simply fill the bag with new or gently used baby and toddler items and send it back to us using the prepaid shipping label provided. 2️⃣ **Schedule a Donation Drop-off:** If you prefer to donate in person, we invite you to schedule a time to drop off your donations at our New York or Boston Family Center. Our team will be on hand to greet you and personally thank you for your generosity. 3️⃣ **Host a Collection Drive:** Gather your friends, family, or colleagues and host a collection drive to gather much-needed items. We'll provide you with the materials and resources you need to make your collection drive a success. 4️⃣ **Clear Our Amazon Wish List:** Don’t have baby or toddler items to donate? Consider making a financial donation (and check if your employer will match on our website), or help clear high-need items off our Amazon Wish List. For our New York and Boston centers, we have curated lists of items we need to fill the shelves for our families. Your donation is not just providing material support — you're helping another child thrive from the start. Our community of supporters has always been strong, and we know with your help that we can fill our shelves for the summer. As we celebrate Parents’ Day on July 28, we’re taking intentional time to recognize the caretaking journey — the challenges and joys, the teamwork and support, and the resilience and dedication involved in raising children. While no one is claiming that the role of a parent or caregiver is an easy one, it is an important one, shaping the lives of our children and our next generation. That’s why, though Room to Grow’s mission is to help children thrive from the start, a portion of our program’s content and support is targeted toward parents and caregivers with a two-generation, evidence-informed approach. And we know it works:  ✨ 95% of families in our program report that Room to Grow helps them achieve their goals as parents ✨ 92% of parents in our program report that Room to Grow helps them reduce stress ✨ 87% of parents in our program report self-confidence in responding to challenges and opportunities Learn more about the research behind our approach and the impact we’re creating with it here: https://lnkd.in/d3EvbXn2

Earlier this month, #TeamAlkermes volunteers took part in our 16th annual “Alkermes in Action” employee-led volunteer program. This day of service is a tangible demonstration of our team’s commitment to making a real impact in the communities where we live and work. Beyond our day-to-day mission to pursue great science on behalf of people living with complex neurological conditions, we recognize that we have the opportunity to support local organizations whose values align with ours and share our dedication to making the world a better place.  This year, nearly 250 volunteers from our Waltham office supported a dozen organizations in the Greater Boston area. Employees rolled up their sleeves and assembled beds for children in need, braved the heat to work on local farms, built a sensory board in celebration of #disabilitypridemonth among many more activities. Working in partnership with The Dimock Center, Casa Myrna, The Trustees of Reservations, Mass Audubon, Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, Dignity Matters, Inc., Room to Grow, Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (MSPCC), Pine Street Inn, Community Servings, Bridge Over Troubled Waters and Victory Programs, our team members were able to help provide meaningful support to groups making a difference in the lives of people in need across Massachusetts.  At Alkermes, we are deeply committed to the idea that corporations can make a positive difference in society, and Alkermes in Action is one way #TeamAlkermes brings this belief to life every year. Thanks to all who participated this year.

This past weekend I attended the Room to Grow event, which supports families and children from newborn to age 3 with the realization they need to thrive. They provide parent coaching, free baby and toddler items and connections to community resources. Thankful for the CEO Akilah King, MPH and board members Uma Thurman Nancy Twine and Rashaan Reid. We packed backpacks with Gayle King and received a wonderful gift from Prada Group Grateful for organizations committed to caring for people in need 🙏🏾 #missiondriven #purposefilled #nonprofit

While you're doing Prime Day shopping, help clear our gift lists for Room to Grow 📦 I started working with this nonprofit in May, partnering with families in low-income circumstances to help children ages 0-3 thrive from the start. Since our founding in 1998, we have distributed $31 million worth of baby and toddler items. This includes: - $10,000 worth of items to EVERY family throughout our three-year program - 400+ items of clothing for every child - 130 books for every family’s home library - 65+ toys for every family - And more (including strollers, hygiene items, bedding, etc!) Last year, we distributed over 160,000 items to the nearly 1,000 families we partnered with 🤩 and we depend on donations from our community for 95% of these baby and toddler items. Help us clear our high-need items on our Amazon Gift Lists during this Prime Day and equip families with crucial resources. 💙 Shop our New York Center list here: https://lnkd.in/eqFU3aR7 💙 Shop our Boston Center list here: https://lnkd.in/eU5eM4W9
