Today we celebrated Teaching Kitchen Class 70 for completing their 12-week job training course! 🎉 The program covered core culinary skills and ServSafe certification training. We are honored to be featured in the Boston Globe Media, highlighting how our work and the work of our peers during the HIV/AIDS crisis laid the foundation for the Food Is Medicine movement – including God's Love We Deliver, Food & Friends, and Project Open Hand. In 1990, Community Servings delivered hot dinners to 30 people struggling with HIV/AIDS in Dorchester and Roxbury. Since then, we have delivered over 13 million meals to chronically ill individuals across MA and RI. #PrideMonth represents an opportunity to reflect on our early days and the vital support we’ve provided to our community. At Food For Free, we believe in the power of community and the importance of supporting one another. Today, we are proud to highlight the incredible work of Community Servings, a nonprofit organization making a profound impact on the lives of individuals in the LBGT+ community. Community Servings first started its operations in 1990 by delivering a hot dinner to 30 individuals struggling with HIV/AIDS in Dorchester and Roxbury. Since then, they have evolved from a small neighborhood meals program to a regional program serving nutritionally tailored meals and providing nutrition education to thousands of people per year across Massachusetts — many of whom are unable to shop or cook for themselves or their families due to a critical illness. Through their efforts, Community Servings is helping to create a more inclusive and supportive world. Their work goes beyond just delivering meals; it's about fostering connections, promoting health, and uplifting those who are often marginalized. Join us in celebrating and supporting the mission of Community Servings. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that everyone, regardless of their background or identity, has access to the nutritious food they need for health and wellbeing.

June is the #GoogleServe month! For 2024, I along with 20+ Googlers from Cambridge MA campus went to volunteer at our local Community Servings in Jamaica Plain on Wednesday. We joined other 'regular' volunteers to put food items into bags ready for delivery; package individual food such as soup/dessert/rice into containers; place these heavy items into the giant food freezers and refrigerators. We learned about food insecurity especially for those recovering from major illnesses such as cancer and HIV and how we can all work together to help those in need.
