    Live sports is becoming the anchor for profitable streaming in an increasingly competitive environment. Recently, Jon Christian, EVP, Qvest.US spoke with Alexandra Canal at Yahoo Finance about why sports is the next frontier for the media industry’s ‘war on eyeballs’ and what is driving recent sports media deals. "The sports leagues are just taking advantage and trying to get as much as they can. They do not want to do just an exclusive deal with one partner. They want to have the diversification." "What we have now is still that old model plus this new model, so the fragmentation looks much more severe," Christian said, describing the current media landscape as a "war of eyeballs." Additionally, "there is a lot more revenue to be had in terms of rights because you can separate rights between traditional linear broadcast versus digital and get even more money in that way."     Big Tech is taking 2 different approaches as it competes with traditional media providers. Our EVP Jon Christian shares the rundown into the 'streaming wars' with Yahoo Finance along with additional insights ⤵

    Comcast’s recent announcement of a three-way bundle with Peacock, Netflix, and Apple TV + reinforces the industry’s focus on more consolidation and cross-bundling. As I shared with Alexandra Canal at Yahoo Finance for her article on YouTube, the ‘streaming war’ is now about Big Tech vs. Traditional Media providers competing for industry dominance. The Takeaways: The media ecosystem has expanded as Big Tech advances its focus on the media business. ↳ Traditional content providers now need to figure out how to compete with those deep pockets by asking themselves: what are my strengths? ↳ From a position of strength, traditional media companies can strategically invest in increasing the output and efficiency of their core competencies. With the right technology investments, continued focus on creating great content, and striking the balance of exclusivity and ads — traditional media creators and distributors can capitalize on their strengths to compete with Big Tech.
