We’re so excited for Daddio to hit theatres nationwide today! 4Wall built a virtual production studio for the 16-day shoot featuring Sean Penn and Dakota Johnson. The entire movie takes place in a cab driving through New York as the two have deep discussions about relationships and life. Watch this video for an in-depth look at how we worked with Writer & Director Christy Hall on the film Daddio to blend technology from Absen, Disguise Brompton Technology Limited, & Plate Pros to create a bespoke solution for the shoot. Daddio has been met with positive reviews from critics. Johnson’s and Penn’s superb performances generated a positive buzz while on the film-festival circuit, leading up to the nationwide opening.

Sim-Plates strike a great balance between live-action captured video plates and real time game-Engines, they are more customizable than live capture and more photo-real than game-engine work (though we also offer real-time solutions as well). They are customizable even after render due to the numerous render passes we enable and with advanced compositing techniques. We have two different pipelines, our main pipeline utilizes OTOY ‘s Octane Render Engine and leverages their amazing Cloud rendering solution, the Render Network Foundation, which give us the power to render across thousands of GPUs, which is needed for our 12k or 16k plates. All our local rendering proudly rendered on Silverdraft super computers and composited/cole graded with ASSIMILATE Live FX!
