Former Resident Artist Daniel O’Hearn was awarded second prize at this weekend’s final round of the 42nd International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition! Regarded as one of the most prestigious international singing competitions, the qualifying rounds took place in over 50 cities worldwide, with hundreds of singers vying for an invitation to the semifinal and final rounds in Latvia. Daniel received a €5,000 prize, awarded by an international jury composed of artistic and casting directors from the world's foremost opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and Deutsche Oper Berlin. The Belvedere Competition has helped launch the careers of countless international opera stars, including Elīna Garanča, Lise Davidsen, Pretty Yende, and our own Violetta from this spring’s LA TRAVIATA, Vuvu Mpofu. Bravo, Daniel!

"The first thing that I would say to Madame Dawson is, 'Thank you for paving the way. Thank you for being as passionate as you were.' ... She was an incredible example, and I hope that if she’s looking down and listening, I hope I’m making her proud, and that everybody else in this production is making her proud."
