We are big fans of Liz Langenbach and the amazing leadership she provides on our Open Space and Trails Committee. Thank you so much for sharing your valuable time and expertise!
As we end Parks and Recreation month, we are shining this week’s employee spotlight on our amazing Parks and Recreation director, Liz Langenbach! Liz brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her role, having started her journey with the city as a part-time recreation leader in 1993. Over the years, she has made significant contributions to the department, advancing from Recreation Coordinator to Recreation Superintendent for over 15 years, and ultimately to her current position as Director for the past eight years. Her proudest achievement during her time here was aiding in the programming, design, and construction of our award-winning multi-generational center. Liz’s commitment is deeply rooted in her connection to the community she grew up in, making her service both personally fulfilling and impactful. Raised in Apache Junction and an alumna of AJHS, Liz went on to play basketball at Mesa Community College before earning her bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management from ASU. Her passion for community service is reflected in her family's legacy, with both parents serving as public school teachers and her father being a beloved local varsity basketball and track coach. Liz has been married for 28 years and has two sons, Zach and Zane. On her free time, Liz enjoys running and hiking, and cherishes time with her two dogs, Kona (a German Shepherd) and Mojo (a Pit Bull from AJ Animal Control). Her favorite subjects in school were English literature and history, and her favorite quote is from "A River Runs Through It," which says, "Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it." Liz Langenbach's journey from a part-time recreation leader to Parks & Recreation Director is a testament to her professional growth and her commitment to making a positive impact on the community she calls home. We thank her for all her hard work and are excited to feature her as this week's workplace warrior!

Pinal Partnership - Uniting the vision for Pinal County reposted this
I'm incredibly proud of the Town of Superior for its outstanding success in brownfield redevelopment, particularly the revitalization of the old Superior High School. I had the opportunity to tour this historic and character-filled building earlier this year, and it was truly impressive. A huge shoutout to Mayor Mila Besich and Town Manager Todd Pryor, whose leadership and the support of the community are nothing short of magical. Together, they are like a superhero team making transformative changes. Kudos to the Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR) for producing an amazing video that beautifully showcases the vision for new Superior Multigen Center.
NEW VIDEO 🎥: Superior, Arizona is a historic mining community that has faced boom and bust cycles that left one in four of the town's buildings vacant and dilapidated. Utilizing #brownfields and other funding, this resilient town is forging a bold new future by removing or revitalizing its abandoned buildings. Superior’s most ambitious reuse project is the town’s historic high school. Through dynamic partnerships, this iconic building is being transformed into the Superior MultiGen Center, home to many town services. Witness how Superior is not just rebuilding structures but reigniting hope and opportunity, turning a legacy of perseverance into a vibrant vision for tomorrow. https://loom.ly/Ie65qUA

Sophie Dessart congrats continuing to build great relationships with the community on behalf of Florence Copper!
Florence Copper is thrilled to announce a donation of $50,000 to the Town of Florence to support a project enhancing the playgrounds at Heritage Park. Florence Copper’s donation will increase the project budget from $250,000 to $300,000 and allow for more comprehensive upgrades, with a specific focus on adding playground accessibility features for children with disabilities and special needs. John Mays, Florence Copper General Manager, shared, "We are dedicated to the well-being of our community and eagerly anticipate the positive impact these enhancements will bring. This project is near and dear to our hearts because we know that for children with disabilities and special needs, a playground is a place where they can interact and be close with their peers. As a parent of a child with special needs, I know this firsthand." Florence Copper announced the donation at the Florence Town Council Meeting on July 15, 2024, and was recognized by the Town Council for this significant investment in inclusivity in Florence. Florence Copper looks forward to continuing our partnership with the Town of Florence and making a positive difference in our community. Congratulations Saint Holdings for receiving recognition and the foresight demonstrated by this unique development!
We are thrilled to announce that the Arizona Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) has honored Pinal County’s IPAZ Project Improvements as the 2023 Project of the Year in the $5-25 Million Award Category. This esteemed recognition also qualifies the project to compete for a national APWA award. The IPAZ Project, officially titled “IPAZ-Hanna and Houser Roads, SR87 to Vail Road & SR87 Intersection Improvements, Pinal County,” is a testament to the power of collaboration and dedication. The strategic improvements, including paving former farm roads, widening existing roadways, and enhancing traffic management with signalized intersections, have greatly improved access and safety for the transportation of goods and services. This remarkable project, funded through a USDOT Federal Discretionary BUILD Grant, would not have been possible without the combined efforts of Pinal County, FHWA, ADOT, the City of Coolidge, the City of Eloy, Union Pacific Railroad and Saint Holdings. As Pinal County Public Works Deputy Director Celeste Garza aptly stated, “Collaborative efforts and strong partnerships were crucial to the success of the IPAZ improvement project. Working together with our partners allowed us to achieve significant improvements in infrastructure and safety for the benefit of our community.” We extend our immense gratitude to everyone involved in this transformative project. Here's to continued success and progress!
