The global Community for young leaders. 2024 Summit: Montréal/Tiohtiá:ke

About us

One Young World is the global Community for young leaders. At the annual Summit, the brightest talent from every country and sector debate and devise innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing issues. They are counselled by influential business, political, and humanitarian leaders such as Paul Polman, Angela F. Williams, Hasina Safi, Terry Crews and Professor Muhammad Yunus, amongst many other global luminaries. One Young World offers an unrivalled platform to effect change at a global level, with 15,000+ Ambassadors in the network, driving innovation worldwide. Each year, the One Young World community sets the agenda, ensuring that topics are relevant, pressing and engaging. Delegates attend the annual Summit and leave as One Young World Ambassadors. These delegates are selected from partner organisations, attend independently, or are selected through scholarships. Ambassadors return from the Summit with the means and motivation to make a difference in their communities and organisations. Using the inspiration from the Summit, Ambassadors then have access to the power of the 15,000+ global network of young leaders to accelerate existing initiatives or establish new ventures. One Young World partners with over 190 global organisations, NGOs and educational institutions - boasting the largest corporate footprint in its sector. For every 1 USD invested, One Young World Ambassadors deliver 16 USD of SROI. The next One Young World Summit will be held in Montréal/Tiohtiá:ke, Canada (17-21 September 2024).

Hurricane Beryl is devastating islands like Carriacou in Grenada in the Caribbean Sea, damaging infrastructure and leaving many areas without electricity. The World Health Organisation reports that 1,032 people required evacuation in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, 2,500 in Grenada, and 129 in Trinidad and Tobago. We are witnessing the very real and escalating consequences of the climate emergency and the time to act is now. We urge you, our Community, to help to support relief efforts in the Caribbean however you can, and to play your role in the fight against climate change. Our Ambassadors from the region have provided a list of verified organisations working on the ground to support those affected - https://bit.ly/4cvIo89 #OneYoungWorld #Relief

Our Ambassador is making tech more accessible and diverse, here’s how 👇 Nilufar Murodova has dedicated the past seven years to ensuring equal access to education and addressing structural inequalities through education and lifelong learning, particularly in Tajikistan. As the Director of American Space Dushanbe, a US State Department program, she has impacted over 200,000 Tajik and Afghan youth and professionals, addressing the skill gaps hindering their career development. Nilufar’s work extends beyond nationwide programs, with daily offerings and a Makerspace Lab that supports local startups. She equips Tajik youth with essential skills and opportunities to thrive in their careers through these efforts. Through her initiatives like NASA's Space Apps, IT-gap platform, iCode, and vocational training for Afghan refugees, she has fostered connectivity and empowered youth in technology while promoting gender equality in the IT industry. Indigenous Insights Can Save the Amazon! Our Ambassador Daniel Gutiérrez Patiño is the Founder and Chief Executive Director of Saving The Amazon, a non-profit organisation amplifying Indigenous communities in Colombia and planting trees to combat deforestation in the country’s Amazon region. The organisation acknowledges that Indigenous communities are the guardians of the Amazon, and they partner with them to preserve and enrich the rainforest. The Indigenous communities retain complete ownership of planted trees and have input on which trees are best for the region based on their knowledge and heritage. Saving the Amazon also uses geospatial technology to determine individual tree locations for greater accountability, which creates a meaningful experience for donors, because they learn about the Indigenous stories, traditions and knowledge through the trees.  Learn more about his work here: https://bit.ly/4bw5Z7E

The Impact of One Young World Extends Far Beyond the Summit Being a One Young World Delegate has been described as “life-changing,” “inspiring,” and “invigorating” and this feeling lasts way beyond the four days of the Summit itself. All Summit Delegates embark on the Global Leadership Programme, which offers exclusive opportunities to ignite and enhance leadership skills before, during, and after the Summit. With lifelong membership to one of the strongest networks in the world, becoming a One Young World Ambassador is the ultimate way to expand and share your impact. 🌟 Ahead of #OYW24 in Montréal/Tiohtiàke this September, our 2024 Delegates have already attended three of seven online sessions, each covering one of the principles of the One Young World Global Leadership Charter—our framework for responsible, effective leadership. Each online session features special guest speakers, including Counsellors and Ambassadors, who address Delegates and inspire them ahead of the Summit. It’s also an opportunity to meet fellow young leaders from every corner of the world. The next session, on 17 July, hosted by Thuli Madonsela, will dive into the Southern African principle of Ubuntu. Sign your top talent up to join the Global Leadership Programme today. How can policy change protect the LGBTQIA+ community? Pride, which is now a celebration and protest for LGBTQIA+ rights around the world, originally started as a riot against police brutality in 1969. 42% of LGBTQIA+ students hide their identity for fear of discrimination and two-thirds of them have experienced hate crimes. Homosexuality is criminalised in 64 countries and can lead to a death sentence in some. Our Ambassador Best Chitsanupong has been at the forefront of queer rights advocacy in Thailand since 2018. At her graduation, Best had to fight for her right to wear gender-affirming outfits, she won and realised that other LGBTQIA+ students needed a supportive community that would advocate for them! 🌈 She founded the Young Pride Club, an organisation that amplifies the voices and defends the human rights of young LGBTQIA+ people in Thailand. Young Pride Club is leading policy development and advocacy, they also organised Thailand’s first-ever Pride by young people. This year, the organisation is working on a policy paper to promote inclusive education for LGBTQIA+ students in Thai universities. Her tips for allies to advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights are: 🔊 use your platform to amplify LGBTQIA+ voices 🧑⚖️ advocate for de-criminalisation of LGBT people and more inclusive policy in your organisation and government Learn more about Best’s work 🔗 https://bit.ly/4cES7ca
